Summary

The Green Sand Foundry Manager oversees all aspects of the green sand molding operations, ensuring efficient production of high-quality ductile iron castings. This role is responsible for managing personnel, optimizing processes, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Job Description

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote and uphold The McWane Way principles, values, and behaviors.
  • Adhere to safety protocols outline in the Tyler Union Safety Management Program.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow ergonomic and safe lifting techniques.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report any issues.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily foundry operations to meet production targets.
  • Optimize use of materials, equipment, and labor; adjust workflows as needed.
  • Analyze and improve molding, pouring, and cooling processes.
  • Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with quality control to ensure castings meet specifications and resolve defects.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate departmental personnel; manage staffing needs.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Coordinate with maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Lead automation upgrades and capital projects to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Manage production tracking and quality control systems; analyze reports to identify and resolve issues.
  • Support development and implementation of company policies and long-term goals.
  • Review departmental performance and collaborate with staff to resolve operational challenges.
  • Monitor product standards and ensure finished goods meet quality requirements.
  • Communicate with management regarding production schedules, product specifications, and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets; approve expenditures and ensure cost-effective resource use.
  • Establish and implement cost-reduction goals aligned with business objectives.
  • Develop policies and procedures to support timely product shipment.
  • Promote team member engagement and commitment to organizational goals.
  • May be required to work any shift.

Managerial Responsibilities

Directly manage production leaders within a department producing ductile iron waterworks fittings. Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering area preferred; high school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
  • At least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of ductile iron casting processes.
  • Familiarity with DISA or similar molding equipment is a plus.
  • Proven leadership with strong focus on safety, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles and/or Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements and eliminate waste.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives and effective problem solving.
  • Proficient in production planning and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information, lead cross-functional teams, and engage effectively with all levels of the organization.

Physical & Cognitive Abilities

  • This role involves frequent physical activity, including climbing, walking, standing, stooping, balancing, and handling tools and materials. Employees must be able to lift to 50 pounds, as needed.
  • The work environment varies between a standard office setting and a manufacturing plant. Plant conditions may include exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Regular walks through the plant are required. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as needed, including safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
