Reporting to the Plant Manager, the AS Project Quality Engineer ensures shop drawings meet quality standards and customer requirements, manages key documentation, and prepares order packages for production. It involves cross-functional collaboration to resolve technical issues, support process improvements, and maintain compliance. The position also mentors CAD staff and assists with estimating, order entry, and other Architectural Specialties tasks.

What does a Project Quality Engineer do?

  • Ensures shop drawings meet the company's quality and safety standards and are manufacturable and functional for customer applications.
  • Manages key quality documents, including drawings, quotes, and correspondence.
  • Interprets customer requirements using drawings, specifications, product knowledge, and supplier capabilities.
  • Compares customer needs with company product specifications to ensure alignment.
  • Maintains compliance with company and organizational standards.
  • Provides technical expertise during the shop drawing phase for special projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive document sets for customer review and supplier use, including order forms, details, acknowledgements, samples, and specifications.
  • Collaborates with project management on sourcing system components.
  • Works with CAD technicians, project managers, and manufacturing teams to resolve quality, production, and efficiency issues.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements; escalates opportunities to management.
  • Builds strong working relationships across teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Supports development of standard work practices to ensure quality.
  • Mentors CAD personnel on Architectural Specialties' processes and product knowledge.
  • Assists with estimating, CAD drawings, peer reviews, order entry, and other related tasks as needed.

Travel: Less than 10%. Travel could consist of visits to job sites, vendors, manufacturers, customers, or attend seminars or training events.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, industrial design, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in technical drawing review, manufacturing documentation, or product design.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and ability to interpret technical drawings.

  • Office Environment - This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. No PPE is required.
  • Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes: Hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
