This position will support the university's Department of Computer Science (UTCS), which boasts a top ten ranking from US News and more than 6,500 students across all programs. This places UT among the most significant intellectual hubs for computer science research and education anywhere in the world. UTCS has a close relationship with Austin's thriving tech culture and works at the forefront of fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. UTCS is seeking a Social Media & Design Manager who can drive UTCS's digital presence by combining content strategy, visual design, and community engagement. This role leads the department's social media channels, ensures alignment with the UTCS brand, and provides art direction and rapid-turn design support for campaigns, events, and day-to-day needs. The manager will guide student interns in content execution while personally delivering higher-level strategy, creative direction, and brand consistency.

Purpose

Manage the Computer Science department's social media strategy, content development, and visual design. Provide art direction, produce digital/print assets, and ensure consistent brand identity across platforms. Supervise student interns and collaborate with internal stakeholders to amplify departmental visibility and engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage social media strategy and campaigns to engage key audiences (prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, industry leaders).

  • Design and produce quick-turn graphics, templates, and campaign assets for digital and print use.

  • Serve as primary steward of the UTCS visual brand, ensuring visual identity and consistency across all communications.

  • Supervise, mentor, review, and quality-check work of student interns contributing to social media and design execution.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and university partners on campaigns, event promotion, faculty recognition, and departmental storytelling.

  • Track, analyze, and report on social media and design performance metrics; adjust strategies based on insights.

  • Manage external vendors or freelancers for overflow design or multimedia projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or a related field.

  • Minimum of six years of professional experience managing social media accounts for an organization.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

  • Strong written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • More than six years of related professional experience, preferably in higher education or a large, complex organization.

  • Experience supervising students, interns, or staff.

  • Familiarity with brand management and art direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow engagement and measure social media performance.

  • Experience with photography, video editing, or multimedia content production.

Salary Range

$75,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
