SUMMARY

The GIS Cartography Assistant provides essential administrative and data processing support to the Mapping Department at the Board of Assessment Appeals. This role plays a vital part in maintaining the accuracy of parcel records through precise data entry, document tracking, and parcel attribute verification and updates in both the County's CAMA (Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal) system and GIS software.

This position requires strong organizational skills, commitment, and reliability, along with the ability to follow through on daily tasks responsibly, while contributing to a collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate takes pride in doing careful, consistent work that directly supports the accuracy and integrity of the County's parcels and assessment data.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative & CAMA Tasks

  • Enter, validate, verify and update parcel information in the CAMA system (splits, combines, addresses, etc.).
  • Prepare and review revision files to ensure accurate and timely updates.
  • Track and process recorded documents such as deeds, declarations, amendments, and corrections.
  • Maintain monthly production logs and organize digital physical files.
  • Distribute assessor packets and track progress of outstanding work.
  • Scan, file, and rotate records annually for ongoing organization and compliance.
  • Assist with inquiries from staff, the public, and municipalities via phone, email, and in person.
  • Support general office operations and provide occasional front desk coverage.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate clearly to ensure accurate project execution.

GIS & Parcel Data Support

  • Validate edits, update, and review parcel attributes.
  • Assist with verifying mapping-related changes and existing information based on recorded documents.
  • Support data consistency between GIS and CAMA systems
  • Execute assigned tasks related to mapping workflows and data maintenance.
  • Convert legacy scanned documents and PDF lists into Excel spreadsheets to enhance data accessibility and ensure compatibility with GIS schema.
  • Organize and catalog survey plans and related parcel data documents in a structured digital filing system.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Coursework or certification in GIS, cartography or related fields is a plus.
  • High school diploma with 3+ years of experience in parcel data, real estate, title, surveying, or similar fields.
  • Experience with title searches, reading legal descriptions, surveys, and recorded land documents preferred.
  • Experience with CAMA - Tyler Technologies IAS Enterprise preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS Pro preferred; experience with ArcMap also considered.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and SharePoint.
  • Experience in office administration and file management, including organizing records and supporting daily office operations.
