PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Review, provide analysis, management, and resolution of field coordination issues with project team members and participants.

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons



  1. Implement the pre-construction quality plan
  2. Obtain and maintain all necessary construction permits
  3. Work with Project Manager for fee payments or recurring permit expenses
  4. Develop and maintain: Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report
  5. Create, oversee, and distribute contract documents
  6. Establish handling procedures for electronic documents, including Request for Information (RFI) and correspondence
  7. Incorporate all processes and procedures that support the project closeout phase


Lead all aspects of testing and inspection processes for the construction quality management program



  1. Implement three-phase inspection system
  2. Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and any off-site testing procedures
  3. Notify the Project Manager and Superintendent promptly of test results or inspection items that do not conform to contract requirements


Handle submittals



  1. Set up register in accordance with project specifications
  2. Obtain the customer/architect's approval
  3. Prepare project-specific transmittal forms in PCMS
  4. Coordinate the packaging, review, and processing of submittals
  5. Expedite submittals to ensure material deliveries are in sync with the project schedule
  6. Communicate details and requirements for the submittal process to subcontractors and suppliers
  7. Issue submittal requirement letters that outline packaging and processing requirements
  8. Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect
  9. Coordinate details of various subcontractors, including verifying insurance, preparing paperwork, and requesting final payment from Finance


Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders



  1. Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-build construction documents
  2. Incorporate subcontractor as-built documentation in the procedures for revising or updating contract documents


Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance

Other duties as assigned, including:



  1. Determine alternative work methods as needed
  2. Coordinate safety and compliance for all team member
  3. Maintain schedule of timelines and follow through until completion


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  1. Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively run multiple project tasks
  2. Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  3. Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  4. Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  5. Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  6. Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  7. Ability to travel overnight up to 100%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum three years of related experience
  3. Current driver's license


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the following with or without an accommodation; sitting, walking, standing, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, hearing, visual acuity, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. This person must be physically capable of reviewing a jobsite multiple times daily. The working environments consist of exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and outdoor weather; as well as indoor and climate-controlled settings.

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer II with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, provide analysis, management, and resolution of field coordination issues with project team members and participants.

Location: Initial Project New Mexico

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons


  • Implement the pre-construction quality plan and manage testing and inspection processes


  • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses


  • Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non-Conformance Report


  • Manage, create, and distribute contract documents; establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)


  • Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing


  • Expedite submittals to align with project schedule; communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers


  • Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase; define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents


  • Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods as needed


  • Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management


  • Minimum of three years related construction experience


  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks


  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices


  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills


  • Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills


  • Current driver's license

Gym Membership Discount Program

The base pay range for this role is $91,100 MIN - $123,00 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
