The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Supervisor ensures the appropriate continued flow of equipment and instrumentation through SPD. Adequately plans, requisitions, stores and consults with the Operating Room Service Leaders and nursing personnel. Coordinates SPD activities with nursing staff and service leaders and develops timely, in-depth problem resolutions. Cooperates and consults with the Materials Manager to maintain equipment and supplies and in the evaluation of these items. Provides input in interviews of new applicants for department positions. Maintains quality processes on all shifts; provides training, performs annual Competency Assessments and assists with evaluations for department staff. Assists with Quality Improvement processes. Coordinates all SPD staff activities to consistently accomplish department goals. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc. Insures the department is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma
  • Successful completion of a SPD/CS Training course
  • CBSPD or IACHSMM certification as a technician or supervisor certification within two years of accepting position
  • Three to five years SPD experience including comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all processing equipment used in Sterile Processing (i.e. pre vac, gravity sterilizers, washer decontaminators, ultrasonic cleaner, ultrasonic lumen cleaners, low temperature gas plasma, etc.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all N.J. State Department of Health and AAMI regulations and standards

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time
  • Night Shift
  • 40 hours per week

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures an adequate level of supplies, trays, and patient care equipment to meet patient needs,
  • Ensures accurate record keeping of all pertinent records; ensures payroll is correctly completed; ensures work schedules are completed,
  • Maintains work orders and calls for necessary service,
  • Able to identify all cycles for autoclaving and understands biological and chemical monitoring,
  • Understands and can operate Sterrad sterilizer and maintains biological and chemical indicators,

Communication

  • Periodic review and update of departmental Policies and Procedures,
  • Ensures accurate record keeping of all pertinent records; ensures payroll is correctly completed; ensures work schedules are completed,
  • Maintains and understands the importance of personal protection equipment,
  • Provides inservices as needed and may participate in new employee orientation and maintains pertinent records,

Leadership

  • Periodic review and update of departmental Policies and Procedures,
  • Ensures an adequate level of supplies, trays, and patient care equipment to meet patient needs,
  • Makes recommendations to improve quality and efficiency of productivity,
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Administrative and Departmental policies and procedures; demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform all services provided by the department,
  • Makes recommendations to improve quality and efficiency of productivity,
  • Demonstrates knowledge of budgetary constraints, inventory control and effective utilization of resources,

People Management

  • Evaluates performance of staff
  • Prepares performance evaluations appropriately
  • Ensures quality and quantity of work performed meets departmental standards
  • Evaluates performance of subordinates; interviews prospective candidates
  • Assists OR through QI projects as needed
  • Personal Learning / Self-Management
  • Operates with a high degree of autonomy and authority while working within the framework of MMC s philosophy and policies
  • Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to keep abreast of the latest trends in hospital/department/administration services
  • Establishes clear and specific performance standards and expectations for staff members
