Job Duties:
The Research Animal Resources and Compliance unit (RARC) is looking for an energetic individual to join our team of dedicated professionals who provide care for research animals on campus. Come be a part of the exciting research enterprise at UW-Madison and contribute to important discoveries that lead to better lives for humans and animals. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position reporting to the Attending Veterinarian. Responsibilities include providing veterinary care and clinical oversight to research species in biomedical settings, especially nonhuman primates. The selected candidate will also serve on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and assist faculty and research staff with development of animal models and animal use protocol applications. The Veterinarian also assists in training programs for investigators, research staff, animal care staff, and other veterinarians; assists units in maintaining AAALAC accreditation, and provides surgical and postoperative care to research animals. Primary duties are caring for animals in the College of Letters and Science, including a colony of nonhuman primates. Key Job Responsibilities:
Department: RARC Compensation: Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation and paid holidays, sick pay, competitive insurance and savings accounts, as well as many retirement benefits. The pay range for this position is expected to be $130,000- $165,000 depending on board certification status, years of experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications: Formal training and/or experience working with animals in a research setting is required. The desirable candidate will have experience with the operations and health management of animal facilities, including nonhuman primates. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Preferred Qualifications: Education: DVM or VMD is required. Must be able to be licensed in one state. Board eligibility or certification in laboratory animal specialty is highly desirable.
