The Division of Transplantation in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an experienced abdominal organ transplant surgeon to serve as Surgical Director of the UW Health Kidney Transplant Program within the UW Health Transplant Center. We perform, on average, 290 kidney transplants including 90 living donor kidney transplants, and 33 pancreas transplants per year. We are looking for candidates with training completion from an ASTS certified abdominal organ transplant program with specified training completion in kidney and pancreas transplantation, and laparoscopic donor nephrectomies. Candidates should also have a track record of clinical excellence, programmatic leadership experience, and academic contributions as demonstrated through previous practice or training. The successful candidate will have experience at a large volume kidney transplant program, with both deceased donor and living donor transplants, as well as experience with national paired kidney exchange transplants.
School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation The UW Division of Transplantation is one of the world's leading abdominal organ transplant programs and has been on the forefront of transplant advancement since its creation in 1966. Surgeons and scientists in the Division of Transplantation have made innovative discoveries that are used throughout the world. The UW Health Transplant Center is one of the most experienced transplant centers in the nation. More than 20,000 abdominal and thoracic organ transplants have been performed at the University of Wisconsin in the past 59 years, including adult and pediatric patients as well as our Veterans in need of heart, lung or liver transplantation through the William S. Middleton Veteran's Hospital in Madison, WI. The UW Health Organ and Tissue Donation is recognized as one of the most successful organ procurement organizations in the nation. The Division of Transplantation currently supports twelve faculty surgeons and trains three to four transplant fellows annually. The Wisconsin Department of Surgery is one of the leading surgical departments in the nation, excelling in patient care, surgical education, and surgical research. We are composed of more than 130 full-time faculty across 10 divisions and nearly 200 additional staff who support our mission. Our surgeons perform approximately 20,000 operations per year for pediatric and adult patients. Training the next generation of surgeons and clinician-scientists is integral in our department, with more than 100 residents and fellows trained each year. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research. The Department's Office of Clinical Research (OCR) provides clinical trial coordinator support for clinical trials as well regulatory support for research, and the grants management team provides comprehensive pre-award to post- award support. In collaboration with the OCR, our faculty in the Division of Transplantation leads an average of 10-12 active clinical trials per year sponsored by either the National Institutes of Health or industry partners to innovate and move the transplant field forward. The Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin also provides access to a network of surgeons throughout the state, and this platform provides opportunities for collaborative quality improvement that improves the care of surgical patients throughout the state and region.
