Operations Department

Vantage operates mission-critical data centers for the world's largest technology firms. The operations department is responsible for setting and maintaining high operating standards across the fleet, and ensuring uptime, reliability, security, and customer service. The team includes Site Operations, responsible for the day-to-day running of the facilities and supporting infrastructure. The sites are staffed 24 x 7 with Critical Facilities Engineers (CFEs) on each shift. The Reliability Engineering Team is responsible for the setting maintenance standards, ensuring consistency and quality of site operations across the fleet, and provides subject matter expertise in the areas of electrical, mechanical, controls & automation, influencing across design, procurement, construction and commissioning. The Security Team ensures Vantage facilities are safeguarded and well monitored, and is responsible for access control, CCTV, security staffing, security design, and engineering. Lastly, the Business Operations Team is responsible for service support, KPI management, vendor relations, standards & transformation, and property management.

Position Overview

This role can be based in any of our US locations: Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA.

The Vice President, Operational Excellence is a senior leader responsible for driving operational performance and continuous improvement across Vantage's full value chain - from strategic planning through execution. This role is pivotal in enabling scalable, efficient, and high-quality delivery across the data center lifecycle, with a primary focus on the North America value chain and a strong lens for global alignment.

Reporting to the SVP, Strategy & Transformation, the VP will lead cross-functional initiatives that improve process handoffs, enhance understanding of enterprise architecture and information flows as they relate to operational processes, and guide optimization efforts that effectively leverage technology. This leader will serve as a critical liaison between business and technology teams to ensure decisions are grounded in both operational needs and scalable solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Operational Excellence, Lean, Six Sigma, and Agile methodologies, with the ability to synthetize and adapt frameworks to meet the demands of a rapidly growing and evolving business.

This leader will be accountable for designing and executing enterprise-wide improvement programs, fostering a culture of excellence, and aligning teams around shared goals and metrics. Success in this role requires a systems thinker with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and a track record of delivering measurable impact in complex, matrixed environments.

Essential Job Functions

Strategic Direction & Execution

  • Define and drive the 1- to 3-year strategic roadmap for value chain optimization across North America.

  • Lead operating model initiatives, ensuring execution aligns with enterprise goals and global strategy.

  • Translate diagnostic insights into executable playbooks that improve performance, decision-making, and accountability.

Operating Model, Process & Systems Optimization

  • Map and improve key value chain workflows across functional and regional interfaces.

  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and governance structures to eliminate friction and increase execution speed.

  • Lead enterprise-level diagnostics to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities across systems, processes, and team interfaces. Apply structured methodologies to evaluate tool and system effectiveness (e.g., Salesforce, Service Now, etc.) and drive scalable, data-informed solutions.

  • Identify and implement technology and process enhancements to improve the end-to-end delivery lifecycle.

  • Partner with IT, Product, Procurement, Design, Delivery and Operations to align systems with operational needs.

  • Promote data-driven decision-making through streamlined KPI tracking and reporting systems.

Cross-Functional & Global Alignment

  • Collaborate with teams in EMEA and APAC to ensure global alignment, particularly with shared functions.

  • Facilitate integration between enterprise teams and delivery organizations.

  • Act as a connector across departments to align priorities, systems, data, and KPIs, helping to resolve challenges around source-of-truth data, data governance and reliable reporting in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Champion enterprise data governance and reporting reliability, ensuring that operational decisions are supported by accurate, consistent, and accessible data across the value chain.

Data-Driven Innovation & AI Readiness

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Data Science, and Director of AI to identify operational challenges and translate them into scalable analytics and automation opportunities.

  • Champion the integration of AI and advanced analytics into core processes, ensuring solutions are scalable, measurable, and aligned with enterprise goals.

  • Serve as a strategic bridge between business operations and technology teams to ensure AI and data initiatives are grounded in real-world process understanding and deliver tangible value.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and develop leaders within the value chain around a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Act as an advisor to leaders within the value chain, helping shape enterprise-level decisions.

Additional Duties:

  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field required.

  • MBA or master's degree strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, strategy, or transformation roles.

  • Proven success in leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives and driving measurable performance improvement.

  • Experience in data centers, digital infrastructure, or capital-intensive industries is strongly preferred, including those with significant product development, R&D, or engineering complexity.

  • Global exposure and working across matrixed, multi-regional organizations.

  • Experience with process mining tools and techniques to uncover inefficiencies and guide improvement efforts.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of operational models, value stream mapping, and organizational design.

  • Strong systems thinking and analytical capability to drive enterprise-wide solutions.

  • Proven change agent with ability to influence and align senior stakeholders.

  • Executive-level communication and leadership skills.

  • Fluency in Lean, Six Sigma, and Agile methodologies, with the ability to develop hybrid approaches tailored to business needs.

  • Experience with Salesforce, ServiceNow, Power BI, process automation, and modern KPI dashboards a plus.

  • Familiarity with various project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Smartsheet, MS Project, Clickup, etc.) to support cross-functional execution.

Travel:

  • Up to 25%, including domestic and occasional international travel.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $270,000-$280,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
