Your Role on Our Team:

As the Principal Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer specializing in high powered lithium-ion cells, you will be a key team leader on our Quality Assurance team, playing a crucial technical leadership role in shaping the design, manufacturing process, and quality systems in a brand-new factory. Focus will be on the FA process and technical assessment of failures on finished and in-process product to drive the appropriate corrective actions and next generation improvements to maintain the highest performance product. You will collaborate closely with the equipment engineering, process engineering, production, and design teams to ensure the continuous improvement of quality standards and processes in the production of consumer battery-powered tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of junior engineers and technicians by mentoring, establishing best practices, and training.
  • Set up and maintain overall FA process and related systems
  • Establish a comprehensive FA database and reporting that provides clear root cause, prioritization of failures, traceability, trending, and searchability for cross functional teams.
  • Drive corrective actions internally across multiple functions throughout the product lifecycle
  • Lead the external quality incident investigations and drive related corrective actions
  • Partner with design and process quality engineers to ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Benchmark and innovate analytical techniques that enhance the team's ability to respond to and control quality issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • PhD degree, major in electro-chemistry, materials science, or related field.
  • More than five years' experience related to failure analysis, design, and/or manufacturing of li-ion cells.
  • Experience with cell test standards and analytical tools of the industry such as SEM, EIS, TGA, DSC, GCMS, CT, etc.
  • Familiarity with general quality tools, statistical analysis, and problem-solving methodologies
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Fluent in written and verbal English
  • Up to 25% travel

Preferred Skills

  • Experience leading a small to medium size technical team
