Acara Solutions is seeking a Safety Manager for our client in Syracuse, NY! In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs at a fluid dairy manufacturing facility. This role ensures full compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture and driving sustainability initiatives. You will work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to support safe and compliant plant operations. We are seeking qualified candidates with:
- A strong background in occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing or industrial environments

Here's what you'll do: Health & Safety:
- Oversee site compliance with OSHA standards and the Safety Management Operating System (SMOS).
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
- Provide site-specific safety training and development across all departments.
- Lead daily safety meetings and walkthroughs, promoting safe behaviors and practices.
- Develop SMART goals to align with plant safety objectives.
- Engage with staff at all levels to drive participation in proactive safety efforts.
- Review and follow up on open action items, near misses, and hazard reports.
- Coordinate and facilitate safety programs, orientations, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Perform audits, manage documentation, and lead monthly safety committee meetings.
- Maintain the OSHA 300 log and develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and One Point Lessons.
- Lead toolbox talks and ensure timely completion of safety manager compliance tasks.
Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations (EPA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, etc.).
- Manage permits for air, water, stormwater, and waste.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Lead environmental programs focused on waste reduction, spill prevention, and recycling.
- Prepare and submit reports including Tier II, TRI, DMRs, and emissions inventory.
- Serve as the site's subject matter expert during audits and inspections.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate sustainable practices into operations.
- Conduct root cause analysis of environmental incidents and provide training as needed.
- Support energy conservation, water use reduction, and waste minimization initiatives.

Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in EHS or MBA.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in reporting, data analysis, risk assessment, and policy development.
- Ability to manage priorities across multiple departments and shifts.
- Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or CEM.
- Strong motivational, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead by example in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Additional Information:
- Must be able to work flexible hours to meet with staff across shifts.
- On-call responsibilities shared across EHS team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and work in plant conditions (noise, wet floors, mechanical equipment).
