Job Overview

This position description is for a one-year Georgetown Partner Fellow with the Human Rights Institute. This position is ideal for a candidate who is passionate about human rights, interested in innovative approaches, and dedicated to helping make Georgetown a premier training ground for the next generation of human rights advocates.

The Georgetown Partner Fellow will gain a wide range of experience, including opportunities to research and write about domestic and international human rights issues. The Fellow will also support HRI leadership with Institute programs and events. General responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting legal and background research to assist in planning for the Human Rights Advocacy in Action Practicum, and helping supervisors to finalize student work product for the partners at the end of the academic year;
  • Engaging with the Institute's human rights alumni network and developing HRI's ties to human rights practitioners;
  • Conceptualizing and designing human rights conferences and events, and supporting the Program Associate and Office Manager to plan and execute these events throughout the academic year;
  • Supporting the Program Associate and Office Manager to update HRI's social media accounts, websites, and email newsletters;
  • Providing academic and career advice to students interested in human rights; and
  • Other responsibilities based on the Fellow's interests and skills.


Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The Fellow will be an integral part of our growing team as we continue to expand HRI's programs and scope. The Fellow will report to HRI's Deputy Director but will work closely with all team members. The position is hybrid based on the needs of the Institute and as determined in conjunction with his/her supervisor.

Requirements and Qualifications

This fellowship is open to J.D. graduates of the class of 2024. Qualified candidates will have experience in and a commitment to the human rights field. Candidates must have an interest in working with students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are a part of the Institute's human rights community. Candidates must possess strong legal research, writing, and editing skills with excellent attention to detail. Strong communication and organization skills, as well as sound judgment and a high level of professionalism, are required. Candidates must be self-motivated and be willing to work independently and as part of a team.
