This role offers a hybrid work schedule with the flexibility to work remotely about three days per week.

The Role:

As the Accounting Manager, you will lead the Treasury and General Accounting operations within the Accounting Office, driving financial strategies that support key campus initiatives and ensuring compliance with fund accounting standards. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you will manage cash flow optimization, oversee accounting activities across multiple fund groups, and provide leadership to a team of five accounting professionals.

This is a role that combines both technical challenge and career growth. You'll be at the center of campus financial operations, serving as a key resource and trusted partner for staff and financial leaders across UCR. From supporting athletics and the School of Medicine to collaborating with purchasing, financial aid, and student accounting, your reach will extend across the university. You'll have the opportunity to build rapport, strengthen partnerships, and provide solutions that help departments achieve their goals while maintaining strong financial stewardship.

How You Will Spend Your Time

    Strategic Treasury Management: Develop financial models and liquidity strategies to optimize cash flow, support capital initiatives, and enhance long-term financial planning.
  • General Accounting Oversight: Manage critical areas like capitalization, depreciation, tax reporting (UBIT, sales/use tax), audits (NCAA, external), journal entries, month/year-end close, and reconciliations.
  • Fund Group Management: Oversee accounting activities for Plant Funds, Loan Funds, General Funds, Auxiliary & Service Funds, University Funds, and Campus Reserves.
  • Team Leadership: Direct and mentor a team of five accounting professionals, ensuring high standards in daily operations, staff development, and timely reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Lead efforts to develop and implement internal control systems and modernize accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Campus Collaboration: Act as a campus resource, advising departments on accounting policies, resolving complex issues, and ensuring alignment with UC system-wide standards (GASB).

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: The anticipated salary for this role is $93,000 - $133,700 annually, depending on experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience/training).
  • 8-13 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Broad knowledge of financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Expert level accounting-related knowledge and skills; in-depth knowledge of the accounting function.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and desktop/web applications.
