Finance Data Engineer

SUMMARY: The Finance Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flows and collection for FP&A. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. The right candidate will create, maintain and optimize financial databases and Data Lakes for reporting, planning and analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

• Assembles large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
• Identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Partners with IT department to build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, Python, PySpark, and AWS 'big data' technologies.
• Designs database, table structures and ETL definitions.
• Act as a subject matter expert for FP&A data structures and system data processing.
• Act as a subject matter expert for financial data workflows, mapping and data translation.
• Drives automation through effective metadata management.
• Supports Workday and Salesforce ETL integrations for Axiom.
• Supports reporting and general analytics needs of the department.
• Utilizes python and other programming language to expand the connection between Axiom and external servers such as Informatica and AWS cloud.
• Works closely with Product Owners of Deposits and Loans.
• Monitors schema changes for key source systems for deposits, loans, and general ledger.
• Recommends integration optimizations as identified.
• Streamlines reporting using Axiom and other tools of opportunity.
• Works with ETL team and with business (data) analysts to refine their data requirements for various data and analytics initiatives.
• Proposes appropriate (and innovative) data ingestion, preparation, integration, and operationalization techniques.
• Maintains visibility into database interfaces and monitors systems configuration to ensure and assist in the validation of data integrity.
• Writes and executes ETL code, primarily complex SQL stored procedures, but with a strong ability to leverage other technologies.
• Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
• Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
• Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree Finance, Accounting or Computer Science required.

EXPERIENCE

• 2 - 4 years Database management, including data extraction and data architectural concepts required.
• Experience with AWS cloud analytics preferred.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Mastery of analytic and data visualization tools such as SAS, SQL, Python or R, AWS Cloud Services (S3, Cloudwatch, Athena,Glue) etc.
• Solid understanding of data warehouse and dimensional modeling concepts.
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, manage competing demands/multiple projects, maintain a strong sense of urgency and follow through in addressing issues.
• Effective and persuasive presentations (verbal and written) for project teams and business leaders
• Maintains strong attention to detail in high-pressure situations.
