Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |

The North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (
NCCPSS) Program is a collaborative initiative between the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services (
DMH/DD/
SUS) and the University of North Carolina School of Social Work. The program's vision is to build a qualified Peer Support Specialist workforce that is supported, respected, and recognized as a credible and competent part of the mental health and substance use disorder service system. Through quality training, technical assistance, and strong partnerships, the
NCCPSS Program prepares Certified Peer Support Specialists to effectively serve individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges across North Carolina. |
Position Summary |
The North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (
NCCPSS) Program is seeking a Project Manager to lead the implementation of a standardized peer support training curriculum and workforce initiatives aimed at strengthening the Certified Peer Support Specialist (
CPSS) workforce. This role will oversee the delivery of core certification training and continuing education programs, ensuring that curriculum content remains current, relevant, and aligned with best practices. The Project Manager will also lead the development and implementation of specialized training initiatives in key areas such as justice involvement, crisis response, and other priority topics. In addition, the position will provide expert guidance on Medicaid policies, behavioral health service delivery models, and reimbursement procedures.
The Project Manager will provide technical assistance to community organizations that offer or plan to offer peer support services, particularly those supported by state or Medicaid funding. Responsibilities also include tracking training data, managing training schedules, reviewing course observation reports, and supporting ongoing program improvement. This role will supervise staff and consultants involved in training delivery and lead the development of a statewide peer support job board while coordinating workforce development strategies to enhance and expand
CPSS capacity across North Carolina. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Experience working with persons recovering from severe mental illness and substance use disorders.
* Have an NC Drivers License
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Preferred master's in social work or a related field.
* Experience working with NC Behavioral Health system and Medicaid.
* Experience in project management
* Experience in setting up behavioral health service organization
* A deep commitment to family-centered practice, disability rights and collaborative approaches to systems change.
* Strong preference for lived experience as a parent or family member of an individual who has disabilities.
* Ability to occasionally travel in and out-of-state. |
