The Opportunity We are seeking a Supervisor, Paralegal Services to join our Washington, D.C. office. The Supervisor, Paralegal Services supervises day-to-day activities of the Paralegal Services team ("the team"). The position works with the Senior Manager and Director of Paralegal Services to oversee the progress of ongoing projects and initiatives. The Supervisor, Paralegal Services is responsible for department administration, recruiting, staff oversight, training and employee development, performance management, and general process improvement in the DC office (in partnership with Senior Manager and Office Administrative Director).
- Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
- Monitors time, attendance, overtime, expense reports, and absence requests to ensure accuracy and compliance with Firm policies.
- Coordinates daily workflow, distributes assignments, oversees workloads, and monitors utilization.
- Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures, and implements departmental goals and objectives.
- Manages and addresses staffing requests efficiently including last-minute and off-hour requests, coordinating with other offices as needed.
- Maintains notary information and coordinates notary and apostille requests.
- Oversees administration of the Mentor Program.
- Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
- Consults with attorneys and works closely with management to ensure proper daily and long-term work flow and assignments of attorney/paralegal teams.
- Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
- Assists with updating paralegal training materials.
- Coordinates training and team building initiatives in collaboration with the global Paralegal Management team.
- Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
- Recommends and participates in disciplinary procedures in collaboration with Human Resources department.
- Provides ongoing guidance to paralegals including on case management best practices and training initiatives.
- Identifies issues and needs of the workplace environment and communicates them to Paralegal Management.
- Provides Senior Manager with updates on day-to-day operations and progress of projects in department.
- Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to higher level management.
- Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
- Oversees employee work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
- Ensures current knowledge of Firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends and continued professional development for business services professionals..
- Assists with preparing and monitoring department budgets, and ensures vendors provide cost-effective services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the litigation process and case management skills, as well as familiarity with corporate transactions in order to provide case-work guidance
- Ability to effectively supervise others
- Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
- Advanced knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management and database applications, with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
- Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment

- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of five years of paralegal or other related experience including two years of leadership and case coordination experience

Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law. Salary Details $130,000 - $150,000
