Position Overview


Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University ( WSSU) is pleased to conduct a national search for a Faculty Affairs Manager. Housed in the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Budget and Faculty Affairs, the Faculty Affairs Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Office of Faculty Affairs. This position plays a pivotal role in enhancing faculty professional growth, supporting innovative teaching and learning practices, and ensuring the effective onboarding, development, and contractual support of faculty members. The Manager collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to foster an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and transformation in higher education.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience managing fiscal resources particularly for academic units at a four-year institution of higher education.
  • Experience working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff across various academic units.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to shared governance and a consultative leadership style.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing an organization or unit with diverse personnel.
  • Experience working effectively in multicultural communities.
  • Knowledge of national trends in higher education.
  • Experience with regional accreditation standards.

The Faculty Affairs Manager must consistently demonstrate and exhibit the following competencies:

Faculty Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee administrative processes related to faculty hiring, reappointment, promotion, tenure (RPT), and post-tenure review.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of contracts, salary adjustments, rank changes, and workload allocations.
  • Maintain current records of faculty status in compliance with university and UNC System policy.

Oversight of Faculty Affairs

  • Guide the professional growth and development of new and continuing faculty members through targeted initiatives, workshops, and programs.
  • Lead the tenure and promotion process, ensuring compliance with university policies and supporting faculty as they advance in their academic careers.
  • Oversee the post-tenure review process, providing resources and support for continued professional development.
  • Drive the onboarding and orientation of new and continuing faculty, ensuring a smooth integration into the university's academic environment.
  • Manage faculty contracts and ensure accurate and timely processing of faculty-related administrative tasks.

Communication, Training, and System Data Management

  • Manage faculty data systems and reporting tools such as Banner, EPAF, PeopleAdmin, Watermark, and Digital Measures.
  • Interpret and implement policies related to faculty affairs, including those set by the UNC System Office.
  • Support institutional reporting on faculty workload, credentialing, and demographic data for accreditation and compliance purposes.
  • Provide training to department chairs and administrative staff on faculty processes, timelines, and policies.
  • Develop and maintain faculty handbooks, process documentation, and communications related to deadlines and procedural changes.

Employment Relations and Compliance

  • Serve as a neutral third party to facilitate meetings and foster open communication among conflicting parties when appropriate.
  • This position will assist in performing thorough investigations and resolutions of a variety of employment complaints including discrimination and/or harassment concerns.
  • Develop investigative plans; execute and document work in accordance with professional standards including providing a report that details the findings of an investigation; Communicate investigation results clearly and timely to all constituencies. Work cross-functionally with HR, Faculty Affairs, Legal Affairs, Internal Audit, University Police Department, and other constituencies.
  • Develop and implement assessment tools to gauge faculty satisfaction, program outcomes, and areas for growth within the Office of Faculty Affairs.
  • Interpret and implement policies related to faculty affairs, including those set by the UNC System Office.
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit and HR to ensure compliance during audits or policy updates
  • Partner with other campus units, including Institutional Assessment and Research, Career Professional Development Services, and the University College to support faculty and student success.
