Job Overview

The Manager for Quality Clinical Nurse Abstractors is accountable for the quality clinical abstraction centralized system function at RWJBH,

This includes hiring and performance review of the team, employee engagement to meet best practices, coordination of centralized quality clinical abstraction needs at hospital and service lines, informing the budget needs of the department in collaboration with the SVP, Patient Safety and Quality, and supervision of team productivity and output quality,

Manager will also support gathering and organizing data from a variety of clinical sources, including retrospective and concurrent medical record abstraction; accomplishing data acquisition in accordance with department timelines; communicating with others in the department, hospitals and service lines when issues pertaining to data quality and or clinical documentation quality and or clinical care arise; preparing reports based on data abstraction; maintaining a level of data acquisition reliability and accuracy that is up to CMS and department standards

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor s Degree

  • 3 to 5 years demonstrated people leadership experience in healthcare environment

  • 5 to 7 years prior Core Measure and other abstraction experience such as complications, medical staff reviews and or registry experience

  • Excellent communication skills are essential

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Access and graphic presentation of data and quality improvement techniques preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • NJ Licensed Registered Nurse

Essential Job Functions

  • Daily management of the quality clinical abstraction team, including payroll, productivity assessment, and performance management
  • Provides requested reports on inter-rater reliability assessments, productivity output and others as requested,
  • Provides subject matter expertise for the use of the abstraction tools/software at RWJBH, with ability to navigate Epic patient records and other data sources as needed,
  • Performs core measure chart abstraction and provides compliance report; retrieve, compile, and enter Core Measure data for ongoing tracking and studies into selected computer program,
  • Research thoroughly and collects all information regarding Core Measure indicators and other quality metrics, interacts with involved individuals in a timely manner,
  • Assists in the development of appropriate forms for data collection and analysis,
  • Assists in constructing focused assessment studies when problems are identified or opportunities to improve patient safety, care and services arise,
  • Maintains own professional growth through the utilization of professional organizations, seminars, in-service programs, and other self-directed learning activities,
  • Maintains awareness of current development and trends in Quality Performance Improvement,
  • Demonstrates interpersonal competencies such as problem-solving, negotiating, problem solving and communication
  • Relays appropriate information to the designated Quality, Hospital s Department staff and service line leaders,
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data;
  • Ability to organize workflow, function independently and manage own time and work tasks
