Visitors Center Manager
Land Use, Health and Development

Anticipated Hiring Range: $71,518-$80,833 annually

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Economic Development Director, the Visitors Center Manager
oversees visitor-oriented programs and services located in the Visitors Center building, including the gift
store operation, Liberty Ride Trolley Tour TM, Battle Green walking tour program, and year-round private
guided tours. The Visitors Center Manager performs professional duties in managing, training,
supervising, staffing, delegating tasks, and scheduling staff for the programs, creates positive and
collaborative team, oversees administrative tasks and services in the Visitors Center, which serves as the
gateway to Lexington, MA. The Visitors Center Manager is responsible for creating a concierge team
that is welcoming and provides the best first experience of Lexington to a visitor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Oversee daily operations of the Visitors Center and its programs and services including hiring,
training, and ensuring a friendly and consistent high-level of customer service.

* Responsible for the retail management of a gift store operation, including seasonal displays,
marketing, purchasing, and inventory management.

* Manages and delegates as needed the ordering, tracking and pricing of retail inventory as well as
researches and develops new merchandise and vendor opportunities.

* Responsible for the maintaining an updated Visitors Center website and launching related social
media to increase the Center's online presence.

* Maintains business relationships with various vendors and acts as the first point of contact for
issues with vendors.

* Collaborate with and trains Assistant Visitors Center Manager to ensure there is an on-call or on-
site manager during hours of operation, including the weekends, to assist staff with issues.

* Collaborates with the Economic Development Director and Senior Economic Development
Coordinator to implement marketing strategies, promotions, advertisements, social media and
web-presence to promote the Visitors Center.

* Develops new marketing materials such as brochures and rack-cards to help promote and educate
visitors regarding new offerings at the Visitors Center.

* Monitors sales and expenses generated by the visitor-oriented programs; and oversees payroll for
the staff at the Visitors Center.

* Oversees that daily sales slips are recorded and tracks sales tax liability; Ensures that the banking
deposits are turned over to the Treasurer for all programs.

* Ability to operate retail software, cash register, credit card machine, and online software for
ticket sale transactions.

* Greets visitors and assists with information referral.

* Ensures security and safety of the building and collaborates with Public Facilities to address
issues.

* Oversees Liberty Ride Tour operations.

* Maintains a variety of print and electronic files and records for the program, including various
databases.

* Performs special projects and other related duties as required or directed by the Economic
Development Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises, trains and builds the teamwork of the Tour Services Coordinator, Assistant Visitors Center
Manager and 40-50 seasonal tourism advisors and tour guides of the visitor-oriented programs and
services located in the Visitors Center building, including the gift store; the Liberty Ride Tour, the Battle
Green Guide Program, and year-round custom guided tours.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, retail operations/management, hospitality or related field
and three (3) years management experience in a service-oriented business, or any equivalent
combination of education and experience. Marketing, sales, and/or tourism experience is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

* Modern office procedures, methods and computer/software equipment.

* Social media and marketing techniques
* English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
* Principles and procedures of confidential record keeping.
* Effective customer service techniques.
* Tourism and hospitality experience preferred

Ability to:
* Inspire and lead a team
* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective working
relationships.
* Manage staff in a thoughtful constructive manner
* Manage complex projects
* Operate computer, credit card machine and various software necessary for performing assigned duties.
* Work independently in the absence of supervision.
* Effectively handle an environment which involves close contact with coworkers and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in a seasonal, fast-paced retail environment. The physical retail space is not subject
to extremes of temperature, odor, etc. When large groups of tourists arrive, noise level may be loud.
Operates computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, credit card machine, adding machine,
and other office equipment. Work requires extended periods of standing, sitting, reaching, and typing
which requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
