Overview

Selective Insurance is seeking an energetic, visionary and collaborative Application Manager to oversee and advance Data Engineering operations within Information Management. The team this manager oversees is responsible for data and technology support of all Data Engineering, Analytics and Reporting needs for specific business stakeholders in Commercial lines, Personal Lines and E&S operations at Selective. The services they support includes Data Engineering services, Enterprise reporting support and ML Ops Engineering operations for these groups. The candidate must be a seasoned leader who has lead organizations and projects that are complex in nature and/or of higher strategic importance to the organization.


Responsibilities

    • Assists the Assistant Vice President of Information Management in the management and direction setting for group including setting priorities, coordinating, and the reporting of group activities. The role is responsible for the daily activities of the members of the team as well.
    • Responsible and accountable for project delivery including status reporting for the ITPMO or EPMO.
    • Performance management and Talent development of the employees on the team and ensuring adequate skill development and backup planning is in place.
    • May participate in the evaluation, acquisition, and implementation of vendor software to support business processes.
    • In conjunction with the Architecture Group 1) establish and enforce standards to which the application developers must adhere, regardless of platform, to provide an enterprise-wide set of standards and development processes, and 2) evaluate and recommend state-of-the-art development tools for use within the applications development environments to achieve the most efficient mix of system design and software development tools to produce maximum cost effective utilization of ITS resources.
    • Responsible and accountable for maintaining system service levels as agreed upon with the customer. Identify potential service level problems before they occur and implement or communicate solutions.
    • Need to demonstrate continuous improvement of efficiencies, increased capabilities, and improved quality of deliverables.
    • May need to assist in the evaluation of distributed software issues, policies and procedures including standardization, purchasing, evaluations, and training. Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion and the existing factory floor.
    • Responsible for ensuring appropriate metrics are being monitored and trended, thresholds have been established, alerting solutions deployed and, periodic status reports provided to stakeholders for all critical systems within their specific area of responsibility.
    • Responsible and accountable for the ITS budget for the area, along with the contractual relationships with the service providers that are leveraged.
    • Resolve high-profile escalations and issues, improve the customer experience, and drive initiatives that increase their likelihood of success

Qualifications

  • Passion for and knowledge of current industry platforms, techniques, and solution frameworks in Data Engineering and Analytics
  • Ability to plan and manage projects (includes, but is not limited to, large, cross-discipline infrastructure and cloud projects.)
  • Ability to understand and clearly relate to other members of the organization, technical manuals, software specifications, principles of engineering and operations, and general methods of support methodologies and techniques.
  • Strong Client focus and the ability to communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively in dealing with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Proven leader who have demonstrated results and thought leadership in furthering organizations they had accountability for
  • 2-3 years experience in mentoring and coaching team members
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred. Commensurate work and/or military experience will be considered.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
