General Summary: Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine and specialized experiments where methodologies are clearly established. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under the direction of supervisor.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

As a part of the research team, under general supervision, duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performing a variety of tests following established methodologies. Routine tests may include imaging of human tissue and mouse tissue samples.
  • Preparing tissue sections for analyses by microscopy and mass spectrometry imaging.
  • Performing multiplexed immunofluoresence of tissue samples, and analyzes data with specialized software suite for integration of Mass spectrometry and microscopy data
  • Reading literature and study theory of new technologies involved in research projects, including:
    • MSI data processing from timsTOF and FTICR
    • Optical imaging and MSI data processing
    • Image registration
    • Dimensionality reduction and integrated pixel classification
  • Preparing laboratory reagents in accordance with laboratory procedures.
  • Maintaining supply inventory in accordance with established departmental procedures.
  • Attending weekly lab meetings. Discussing work progress regularly with supervisor and other research team members.
  • Assisting the principal investigator in some defined administrative duties.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience of other chemical or physical science.
  • Good laboratory practices, well organized in planning and performing lab work, maintaining good lab records and electronic notebooks are necessary.
  • Good organizational skills; must be detailed oriented.
  • Sound degree of computer literacy.
  • Strong motivation for curiosity-driven research, hypothesis-generation, and constant desire to improve on scientific technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team of researchers.
  • Ability to make at least 1-year commitment to the position to contribute technically to newly funded grant studies. Longer term contribution of more than 1 year is welcomed.
Working Conditions:

Work will be performed in a laboratory setting and the candidate will have a desk with a dedicated workstation. The employee will also work with a cryostat, which can be repetitive, but with no physical requirement such as excessive lifting and bending. Employee will be provided adequate personal protection for handling tissue and chemicals.

NOTE: This is a grant-funded position expected to last 2+ years, but subject to termination if grant funding expires.
