Office Manager - Georgetown University Law Center

Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. With the Hilltop Campus located in the heart of the historic Georgetown neighborhood, and the Capitol Campus, just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court, Georgetown University offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, and unparalleled opportunities to engage with Washington, D.C. Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.

Requirements

Tradition. Innovation. A superb faculty. Hundreds of course offerings - and all of this just steps away from the Capitol and Supreme Court. Georgetown Law is an exceptional institution in an enviable location. Students come here from all over the world to study international or tax law, environmental or health care law (just a few of our specialties). They come here for our top-ranked clinics. Most of all, they come because this is the place where theory and practice meet. At Georgetown, students learn the law in the place where laws are made.

The Office Manager serves as the primary administrative point of contact for multiple experiential programs - where law students, faculty, and fellows represent real clients in ongoing litigation, policy, and/or transactional matters. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of multiple law offices, the Office Manager ensures that our clinics comply with University policies by serving as a liaison between individual clinic personnel and the relevant departments across the University. The Office Manager is also a primary point of contact for external stakeholders and is responsible for fielding and directing inquiries from outside the law school. Finally, the Office Manager has a critical role in supporting the substantive work of the clinics in a role that is similar to a paralegal.

This position supports three programs:
  • Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic: a legal clinic where students provide direct legal representation to patients at community-based health clinics that serve children and families in a variety of areas of poverty law, such as education, housing, and access to public benefits and health insurance.
  • Racial Equity in Education Law and Policy Clinic: Georgetown Law's newest clinic in which students engage in policy and legislative advocacy on behalf of nonprofit organizations to advance racial equity in education in the District of Columbia and nationally.
  • Street Law: an experiential practicum program in which law students teach a semester-long elective course in practical law to students in public and charter high schools throughout the District of Columbia or to juvenile and adult learners who are under court order probation, or who are in rehabilitation facilities or transitional housing.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Directors of the Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic, Racial Equity in Education Law and Policy Clinic, and Street Law. The Office Manager will have significant contact with clinic faculty, fellows, and students - as well as other Georgetown offices. The Office Manager will also coordinate closely with other Office Managers and the clinical program's central administrative team (including the Assistant Dean, Director, and Program Coordinator). In addition to internal stakeholders, the Office Manager will regularly interact with current and prospective clients, court or agency officials, prospective fellows, and the public.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • College degree (B.A. or B.S.) or the equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office - including Word, Excel, and Adobe. Experience with Google Suite and working in a remote or hybrid environment is also helpful
  • Commitment to and ability to learn new programs or systems (such as Canvas, Legal Server, and GMS)
  • Highly organized and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks - working both independently and as part of a team to complete assignments for various stakeholders
  • Ability to proactively support the clinics by identifying issues and (where appropriate) use professional judgment to resolve them or escalate to clinic directors
  • Experience working in a legal office is preferred, but not required.

The Office Manager role is especially well suited for candidates interested in the law or the role of legal clinics to advance social justice. Georgetown Law has a strong commitment to diversity among its staff and encourages applications from women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
