THE POSITION

Are you prepared to demonstrate your mechanical skills? The Department of Transportation, McKean County Maintenance Organization is seeking an experienced Automotive Mechanic. Here, you will be essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our fleet, which is critical for upholding our service and reliability standards. This role allows you to work on a diverse range of vehicles and equipment, applying your technical knowledge to diagnose problems, execute repairs, and perform preventive maintenance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional maintenance and repair services for a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and various construction equipment such as rollers, sweepers, and mixers, as well as powered hand tools. Your duties will also encompass repairs on diesel equipment, parts rebuilding, and the repair of air brake systems and diesel engine fuel injection systems. A key aspect of your role will involve implementing a preventative maintenance program for vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance across the organization. This includes conducting oil changes, performing automotive diagnostics, executing tune-ups, changing tires, and repairing or replacing engine sub-assemblies, as well as addressing issues in cooling systems, suspension, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, fuel systems, brakes, steering, and driveline systems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch
  • Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
  • You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 PA Inspection Mechanic Certificate.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
