Simulation Operations Manager

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care and service, is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position in the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing. Saint Louis University is one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, carrying on the 450 year old Jesuit tradition.

The School of Nursing, an integral component of one of the largest Catholic health sciences centers in the world, has been in the forefront of nursing education since its founding in 1928. The School offers baccalaureate, master's and doctoral (DNP and Ph.D.) programs and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The School offers an infrastructure to support faculty research and practice and offers innovative curricula to effectively address current and future health care needs.

Nominations and applications are invited for a non-tenure track appointment in the School of Nursing.

This position requires:

  • Graduate degree in nursing required
  • 5 years of Nursing experience of which 3 of these years must include full time Nursing Simulation experience.
  • Strong teaching and clinical skills with the ability to teach at undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Missouri
  • Organizational skills, technological knowledge of computers and software.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

All duties to be carried out on site at the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing located in Midtown, St. Louis, Missouri.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for teaching practical clinical skills to undergraduate nursing students as well as operating and providing technical support for all simulators, lab, and clinical equipment, including preparation, maintenance, and repair of simulation lab equipment and associated software. A passion for teaching and also working with technology and being a team player who works in partnership with other faculty to ensure that day-to-day operations and center goals are achieved is essential.

Duties Include:

  • Collaborates with Lab Coordinator and faculty to enhance current and future operations of simulations, skills labs, interprofessional and institutional events and develops practical skills courses syllabi for undergraduate nursing students.
  • Works with the Lab Coordinator and other faculty members to prepare patient care simulators/mannequins, including scenario props, simulated fluids, and others as needed.
  • Sets up, operates, and manipulates patient care simulators with related media/computer equipment to provide practical skill instruction to undergraduate nursing student.
  • Assists the Lab Coordinator with preventive maintenance and repairs of lab and simulation equipment, diagnosis of more serious malfunctions, and arranges for repairs as needed.
  • Provides training and support to other Simulation Center personnel in the technical aspects of simulation to meet expectations of practical skill course syllabus.
  • Assists with inventory and identification of needs for supplies, mannequins, and skills models required to meet expectations of practical skills syllabus.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Coordinator to orient, mentor, supervise and teach work study students, Graduate Assistants, and new Simulation Adjunct Faculty.
  • Organizes and maintains necessary supplies, equipment, show and tell bins, skills models, and mannequins for skills and simulations to meet the needs of various nursing courses.
  • Teaching nursing students in pre-brief, simulations, debriefing, and skills as needed.
  • Maintenance of professional competence through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human physiology is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in the use of PCs and other software applications.
  • Basic knowledge of AV systems operations.
  • Strong teaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
