The School of Medicine Office of Research, co-led by the Vice Dean for Basic Science Research and the Vice Dean for Clinical Research, oversees all basic science, clinical and translational research activities in the School of Medicine. This position would report to the Research Operations Manager, involved in projects, policies, and initiatives related to basic, clinical, and translational research. https://medschool.uci.edu/research/office-research.


Your Role on the Team

Under the general direction and in support of the Research Operations Manager, Director of Research Operations, the Assistant Dean of Research Operations, and the Vice Deans for Research, the Project Manager will support the School of Medicine on operational and strategic initiatives concerning research. Serves as support for research operations, in such areas as analysis of the School's research programs, infrastructure and funding portfolio, and related communications. Will be responsible for general support as well as end-to-end execution of specific projects. The incumbent will coordinate, review, and process materials and information and facilitate collaborations across the organization. This position will be responsible for coordinating calendars and meetings for a variety of projects with the Research Team as well as the task coordination of various projects including on campus vendors, core facilities, award submissions, and our internal undergraduate research program. This position will also provide event support in various events related to research.

Uses professional skills to aid in the understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes, and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Position is hybrid.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting administrative, research, and organizational analysis, including data-gathering from various sources, creating and compiling databases, creating reports, and formulating solutions. Experience with analytical software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently, using judgment and decision-making skills to conduct short and long-range planning to prioritize tasks, and to follow through with related activities and request for information in an environment with a high-volume diverse workload, of frequent interruptions, competing deadlines, changing priorities, and compelling requests.
  • Ability to create visual and graphical material to support reports and presentations.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or comparable experience in a related clinical, academic, or business organization.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • At least 1-year of related experience in project or operations management and at least 1-year professional experience working in an institution of higher education.

Preferred:

  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of University of California policies, procedures, and organizational structure/
  • Prior research and grants experience.
  • Experience in clinical trial, and/or biotechnology or biomedical business support role.
