The Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Institute (OSUCCC-James) is seeking a sub-specialized breast radiation oncologist. The OSUCCC-James is the 3rdlargest cancer hospital in the U.S. and the first U.S. Medical Department to host a visit by a sitting U.S. President. The OSUCCC James is the only nationally ranked academic medical center to be an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1976 and is one of 11 freestanding cancer hospitals. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. Position Overview The Physician provides licensed medical care including diagnosis, treatment (inclusive of surgery or pre/post-surgical care where appropriate), case management and clinical research. The Physician manages complex and sometimes unpredictable situations. The Physician must be competent in technical, clinical and surgical skills (where appropriate), cognitive and interpersonal skills required to serve those patients receiving the above mentioned services. The Physician is expected to practice within the established Medical Center and physicians standards of practice (policies, procedures, protocols), and adhere to key results areas of the Medical Center. We provide leading-edge radiation therapy care in an environment of subspecialty radiation oncology expertise, education and translational research. The signature mission of Radiation Oncology at the James Cancer Hospital is to provide state-of-the-art personalized care for our cancer patients by capitalizing upon the unique expertise of our treatment team, implementing cutting-edge technologies geared to eradicate cancer, and conducting cutting-edge clinical, translational, and basic science research. Dedicated freestanding Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center- located close to the main campus First of its kind in the Midwest. Offering a full continuum of breast cancer care - from prevention and screening through detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship - all in one world-class facility.Our Department at the SSCBC is equipped with 2 Varian True Beam Linear Accelerators and 1 CT simulator located on the 1st floor of this beautiful facility. You would join a team of 3 breast cancer radiation oncologists that together see >1,000 new patients per year. To accommodate our substantial growth and robust breast cancer radiation oncology program, we have clinic space on 2 floors and a clinical support team that includes 4 Advanced Practice Providers and 4 RNs that practice exclusively within our SSCBC Rad Onc clinics. Duties and Responsibilities Physician specializing in Radiation Oncology to serve as a member of the Department of Radiation Oncology; directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs; performs Radiation Therapy procedures; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families; directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate amp; graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty of Radiation Oncology; ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities. Appointment rank and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Job Requirements: MD or DO; Successful completion of an accredited residency and be Board Certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology.
