POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company's needs for select production materials, indirect materials and services, fixed assets, and tooling.. These products and services are to be secured at cost, quality, and delivery levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. This position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling, receipt, and inventory control of the products and services as assigned consistent with MRP requirements or as appropriately concluded within the purchase requisition (APuRS).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Propose and execute sourcing strategies in collaboration with Corporate Procurement
  • Vendor Management


    • Independently execute vendor contract negotiations and price/volume discounting


      • Develop, negotiate and administer supplier agreements
      • Negotiate delivery schedules and hold vendors to the schedule
      • Aggressively seek cost savings and reduction opportunities with suppliers


    • Establish first point-of-contact relationship with suppliers as well as serve as the first step in problem escalation and resolution


  • Supply Management


    • Monitor commodities to identify risks and/or issues and identify solutions to optimize material flow


      • Commodities will vary from buyer to buyer based upon departmental requirements


    • Minimize risk to business caused by low availability of material
    • Track and report material costs against budgeted targets
    • Check for accuracy of orders before they are placed


  • Work Flow Management


    • Ensure that all supply arrangements are accurately set up in the ERP System
    • Create reports from JD Edwards
    • Work with APURS approval process
    • Process requisitions


      • Review, expedite and track all open purchase orders to ensure timely arrival of materials


    • Resolve quality and receiving issues in an efficient and timely manner
    • Work with other departments to resolve procurement and invoice reconciliation discrepancies


  • Supervision


    • From time to time may have direct report(s). At such times, the incumbent will be responsible for the development and management associated with all direct reports


  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Science, Engineering or a related field. Additional experience can substitute for degree requirement.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a buyer in a manufacturing environment


    • Minimum 2 years of experience may be substituted with a Bachelor's degree


  • Minimum 3 years directly related experience as a senior buyer in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in market analysis, benchmarking, establishing commercial business agreements, and trade-commerce law
  • Experience running ERP/MRP Systems


    • Preferably JD Edwards


  • APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) certification a plus
  • Supervisory experience a plus


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Strong mathematical fundamentals and analytical background


    • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion


  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of manufacturing environment
  • Track record of successful vendor management


    • Demonstrate superior negotiation skills


  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills


    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of inventory data
    • Effectively communicate inventory level goals and objectives
    • Effectively communicate performance goals and expectations to vendors


  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite


    • Experience with standard data analysis tools and the quantitative background to advance this knowledge on the job is expected


  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding purchasing environment with changing priorities


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed in a traditional manufacturing office environment.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $66,200 to $98,500. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
