The Opportunity We are seeking a Project Manager, Business Proposals to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). The Project Manager, Business Proposals is an integral part of the Firm's business development team, supporting the creation of tailored proposals, pitchbooks, and presentations for existing and prospective clients. This role contributes to the development of pitches, qualification statements, and responses to RFPs, ensuring materials are client-focused and aligned with the Firm's goals. The Project Manager collaborates with partners and business development staff to draft and produce business development materials, ensuring consistency in messaging and quality. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong oral and written communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members are essential. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the Firm's business development efforts and support its success in securing new opportunities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manages the end-to-end creation and production of high-impact, client-focused materials - including pitches, proposals, RFP responses and presentations - in close collaboration with the business development team, ensures alignment with the Firm's strategic priorities.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to showcase the Firm's capabilities and expertise across assigned practice areas.
- Coordinates and ensures timely delivery, accuracy and consistency in messaging of business development projects.
- Provides strategic guidance on complex proposals and pitches, leveraging market insights and competitive intelligence to enhance the Firm's positioning.
- Researches relevant Firm and partner experience to support business development efforts.
- Liaises with internal departments (e.g., Client Accounting, Technology, Finance, Editorial, PR) to gather client relationship data and other information for new business opportunities.
- Handles special projects, such as creating practice-specific pitch templates and other materials, in collaboration with the proposal designer.
- Synthesizes internal and external research to develop new business presentations and other materials.
- Maximizes utilization of Firm technology to prepare, deliver and store business development materials efficiently.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience with and demonstrable understanding of the pitch and proposal process, and an ability to independently generate responses to complex RFPs
- Strong understanding of marketing and business development's role within a law firm and the ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
- Knowledge of legal practice areas within the context of a large corporate law firm, and Skadden's areas of focus/expertise, in particular
- Strong writing/editorial and research skills
- Ability to synthesize data and accurately capture it in a narrative; detail-oriented
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills
- Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment [Exempt Non-management]
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Solid strategic thinking and problem-solving capability, coupled with excellent judgment and decision-making and the ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong intuitive skills, and the ability to translate experience and lessons from one project to the next
- Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment, as well as independently and effectively within a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbally and in writing, and the ability to work directly with partners under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
- Experience with InDesign
- Experience utilizing technology, including website, intranet, extranets, databases, knowledge management tools and presentation software
- Flexibility to work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of six years of related experience in a law firm
