Engineering & Fabrication Specialist

ICON is looking to add an Engineering & Fabrication Specialist to our Manufacturing team. This role will combine hands-on metal fabrication expertise with strong engineering acumen. This individual will be responsible for executing precision fabrication tasks, contributing to design and fixture development, supporting quality control efforts, and continuously improving fabrication processes. This role requires high attention to detail, a passion for quality, and a collaborative mindset to work cross-functionally across Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams. This role is based at ICON's Austin, TX campus and will report to our Senior Manager, Fabrication and Production.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform complex welding and metal fabrication using aluminum, steel, and stainless steel (MIG and TIG)
  • Interpret and execute work from detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and weld symbols
  • Partner with engineers to prototype new parts and develop tooling and fixture designs
  • Assist in design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback loops for new product development
  • Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and fixturing
  • Participate in the development and documentation of standard operating procedures
  • Support the first article inspection and dimensional validation of fabricated parts
  • Collaborate with Quality to define inspection plans, execute in-process checks, and record results
  • Maintain fabrication tools and ensure all gauges and equipment are properly calibrated
  • Monitor shop material usage and support inventory tracking of consumables and raw stock
  • Keep detailed records of daily tasks, production hours, and quality tracking metrics
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in alignment with ICON's safety culture
  • Work occasional overtime and weekends when project deadlines require
  • Mentor and assist in training less-experienced team members




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication and welding (preferably in R&D or prototyping environments)
  • Certified welder or equivalent hands-on experience with a focus on aluminum welding (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of engineering prints and the ability to work to tight tolerances
  • Excellent craftsmanship and dedication to quality and repeatability
  • Hands-on experience with grinding, finishing, and post-weld processing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and flexible to adjust with changing project demands
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with long hours and tight deadlines
