The MU Counseling Center is part of the MU Student Health and Well-Being organization, which includes the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Wellness Resource Center. The Counseling Center provides mental health services for MU students as well as serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders. The Counseling Center is administratively housed within the Division of Student Affairs.

Job Description

Essential Functions

This position is one of three staff members at the front desk who are collectively responsible for routine daily tasks that ensure seamless client services at the Counseling Center. General responsibilities include direct customer service, managing client appointments, and maintaining electronic client records. This role also involves data entry using a specialized data system, use of MyZou, and strict adherence to confidentiality standards.

  • Daily tasks include opening/closing the Counseling Center, greeting incoming clients, scheduling appointments, directing phone calls, filing and uploading various forms, and processing incoming client paperwork within an electronic records system.
  • This position requires ability to shift quickly from one task to another in a busy office setting while maintaining accuracy.
  • Frequent use of technology including a clinical database, MyZou enrollment system, multi-line phone, copier, document scanner, and fax.
  • Additional duties may include preparing materials for staff, restocking office supplies, providing light upkeep of shared spaces, and assisting with various projects as needed.
  • Job requires HIPAA and FERPA compliance and confidentiality.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve on campus committees and task force as needed to represent the MU Counseling Center.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the client and maintain our mission.
Shift

Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will possess strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills; effective time management; attention to detail; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including data entry/management and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • HIPAA and mental health/medical setting experience is preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour; paid on a bi-weekly basis.

University Pay Grade: GGS 5
