Job Overview

The Cardiac Sonographer Senior performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult; assists the laboratory with complex cardiovascular malformations and technically advanced cases. The Cardiac Sonographer Senior has obtained a high level of proficiency, competency and knowledge in the field of pediatric echocardiography; provides instruction and orientation of new employees, physicians, fellows, students and preceptees; possesses high level cardiac ultrasound theory and techniques; experienced in the field of cardiology, comprehension of anatomy and physiology, with specific experience in pediatric cardiac ultrasound.

Department: Briargate Cardiology. This position will support both the Briargate outpatient and Colorado Springs Hospital locations.
Hours: 40 hours/week
Shift: Monday through Friday 8-4:40. Weekday, weekend and holiday call on a rotating basis.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

1. Independently perform high-quality echocardiograms on newborns to adults, evaluating congenital heart disease with adherence to protocols.
2. Create accurate preliminary reports, perform necessary measurements, and alert physicians of critical findings.
3. Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and colleagues, providing age-appropriate explanations of procedures.
4. Assist with cardiac procedures and perform advanced imaging techniques, including stress echocardiography, 3D imaging, and research protocols as needed.
5. Utilize low- and high-level disinfection techniques following lab policies.
6. Maintain and report ultrasound equipment issues, ensuring timely repairs.
7. Demonstrate proficiency in using EMR and PACS for modality-specific functions.
8. Provide mentorship and training to cardiology fellows, students, and sonographers as needed.
9. Support departmental projects and initiatives, including IAC accreditation and quality assurance/control programs.
10. Follow department policies, procedures, and safety protocols, addressing compliance and safety concerns.
11. Maintain flexibility in scheduling, including shifts, locations, call requirements, and weekend assignments.
12. Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions, ensuring all certifications and credentials are current.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associates degree and/or graduate of a formal sonography program is required.
Experience: Three years of pediatric cardiac sonography experience.
Certification(s):
* Pediatric Echocardiography Registry required;
o Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS, PE) through ARDMS or
o Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through CCI
* BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $42.27 to $63.41
