X 5 Days Systems Analyst - Progression This position is available to be hired and the levels below: Associate Systems Analyst Systems Analyst Senior Systems Analyst Systems Analyst Consultant Lead Systems Analyst POSITION CONCEPT A Systems Analyst develops applications; implements software packages, integrates applications, and provides 24x7 application support. Collaborates on all phases of the software development life-cycle (SDLC) with a focus on the application design, development, and implementation phases. Utilizes appropriate development tools and technologies in keeping with the IT architecture. ADVANCEMENT IN PROGRESSION Advancement to a higher level is based on value added to the Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e. based solely on time in the job, but will be based on direct observation of the employee's performance, accomplishments, qualifications, and the business and/or technical needs of the department. WORKING CONDITIONS Most work performed in an office environment, but occasional travel to operating locations is required. Provides primary support for one or more applications. Participates on Application Development and Support teams. Works under direct supervision. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develops software of limited complexity based on specifications provided. Implements software packages for which limited configuration and integration is required with minimal vendor contact. Integrates applications where the complexity of interfaces is limited and based on specifications provided. Provides 24x7 primary support for one or more applications typically classified as 'niche' or 'core', but not 'mission-critical'. May provide secondary support for mission-critical applications. Supports the request and analysis phases of SDLC by assisting with documentation and estimates. Executes the design, development, and implementation phases of SDLC by producing the prescribed deliverables under the guidance of more senior staff. Participates on an Application Development and Support team as well as project teams under the direction of their manager, senior team members, or project managers. Acquires and maintains knowledge of business areas relevant to projects and application support assignments. Acquires and maintains appropriate technical skills. RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Interacts with all levels of team members throughout the TECO Energy companies. Frequently interacts with other IT support groups. External: Interacts with outside consulting firm personnel and software and hardware vendors. QUALIFICATIONS Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent discipline. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, additional years related experience may be considered. Licenses/Certifications Preferred: Certifications in specific job-related disciplines are preferred. Related Experience Required: Minimum one year of experience in systems analysis, design, and development. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a minimum high school diploma and 4+ additional years related experience may be considered. Systems Analyst The Systems Analyst develops software of moderate complexity based on specifications provided. Provides primary and/or secondary support for one or more applications. Participates on Application Development and Support team. May serve as Technical Lead on small projects. Works under moderate supervision and may oversee contract resources and/or junior staff. SUPERVISION Indirect Supervision: Provides no direct supervision, but may be assigned a leadership role that could include overseeing contract resources and/or junior staff. Senior Systems Analyst The Senior Systems Analyst develops complex software and integrates applications with complex interfaces based on specifications provided. Creates and reviews technical design specifications. Works under limited supervision and mentors junior staff. Collaborates with Business Systems Analysts and/or Business Partners to develop software specifications. Implements software packages for which in-depth configuration and integration is required; drives substantial interaction with vendor resources. Integrates applications with complex interfaces based on specifications provided. Provides 24x7 primary and/or secondary support for one or more applications classified as niche, core, or mission-critical. Supports the request and analysis phases of SDLC by producing required documentation and estimates; reviews deliverables produced by junior staff. Executes the design, development, and implementation phases of SDLC by producing the prescribed deliverables; reviews deliverables produced by junior staff. Works under minimal supervision and mentors and directs junior staff. May serve as backup to Manager in a limited capacity. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leads complex software development projects. Collaborates with Business Systems Analysts and/or Business Partners to develop software specifications. Considered a subject matter expert in their technical discipline; mentors and directs junior staff, provides feedback to manager on junior staff performance review. Responsible for resource management, staff augmentation, and vendor relationships and ensures there is adequate support for all assigned IS applications for both day-to-day operations and on-call support.
