Job Title: Assistant Chief Engineer

Reports To : Regional Engineering Manager/Engineering Services Manager

Summary of Job Description:

This position will require strong technical, mechanical and administrative skills necessary to operate and maintain client properties. The primary focus of this position will center on providing high levels of customer service including on-site and on-call plant operational support. The Chief Engineer will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of building operations, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.

Must be able to operate as a team member, support the Engineering manager, Regional Manager, PDS and associated FM Team as required , organize and prioritize multiple tasks and have strong customer service skills supporting a wide range of clients, contractors and client employees.

Responsibilities

    • Oversee building systems maintenance and operations across Maryland portfolio

    • Manage engineering and maintenance staff, including hiring, development, and supervision

    • Perform preventive maintenance and provide hands-on technical support as needed

    • Engage in client communications and property team meetings

    • Manage operating budgets and capital improvement planning

    • Direct contractor work and monitor performance

    • Respond to emergencies and service calls promptly

    • Lead technical, safety, and operational training programs

    • Conduct regular building inspections and document findings

    • Manage CMMS and BAS systems, including alarm response and diagnostics

    • Foster a safety-first culture with risk assessment and mitigation

    • Maintain work order completion within service level agreements

    • Mentor team members on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems

    • Diagnose and repair mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components

    • Address building repairs including damaged surfaces and general maintenance

    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality

    • Deliver exceptional customer service to tenants with minimal disruption

    • Maintain required documentation and compliance records

    • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours coverage as needed

    • Support emergency recovery efforts and business continuity

Safety

  • Identify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the building's staff and occupants work in a safe environment. Implement, administer, and manage safety training program.

  • Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building's infrastructure. Responsible for alerting management of building discrepancies.

  • Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the building including up-to-date building drawings and single-lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local law.

Leadership

  • Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training and personal development

  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are followed by the assigned engineering team.

  • Establish relationships amongst the different teams within the JLL/Client account

Training

  • Provides training and support aimed at expanding the capabilities of the operations staff. Specific duties include but are not limited to: demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.

  • Any and all other duties and tasks assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5 - 7 years of construction or building engineering related experience

  • Trade or Maintenance License preferred

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Experienced with various types of hand tools and use of diagnostic equipment

  • Physically able to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder, carry tools and lift and carry up to 70 pounds

  • Able to work in close spaces such as closets, crawl space and able to work on roofs of buildings.

  • Ability to diagnosis problems, make sound decisions, prioritize, schedule and complete multiple tasks

  • Proven safety record and compliance to safe work practices

  • Interpret engineering drawings and equipment manuals

  • CFC Universal Refrigerant Certification is required

  • Proficient computer skills including e-mail, word and excel

  • Exposure to a CMMS system, such as Corrigo a plus

  • Experience operating in secured spaces

Estimated total compensation for this position:

89,996.00 - 115,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
