Job Description

Plans, implements, and coordinates activities and interventions for the development, maintenance and expression of appropriate social and leisure lifestyles of patients admitted to the Unit. Performs a variety of duties involved in carrying out recreation programs in assigned areas and assists in planning programs.

Job Responsibility

1. Reviews findings from the evaluation team screens/assesses patient's leisure skills and interests to contribute to develop an individualized plan of care.
2. Discusses findings and collaborates with patients/family on the establishment of goals.
3. Selects creative treatment activities based upon patient age, interest, education level and social history.
4. Develops recreation groups based upon assessment of patient interest/ needs and facilitates optimal group participation.
5. Monitors patient response to treatment and changes plan as needed.
6. Develops program that will support leisure performance in the home and community environment following discharge.
7. Teaches specific activities/procedures to patient, family or hospital staff.
8. Monitors treatment environment for safety.
9. Considers psychosocial aspects of care.
10. Terminates services when maximum benefit is received and formulates follow up plan, when indicated.
11. Provides in-service education to staff and clinical education to students.
12. Documents care and maintain records as required.
13. Schedules and prioritized workload and demonstrates the ability to meet productivity standards and deadlines.
14. Performs related duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Occasional exertion in excess of 100 lb. of force and/or
Constant exertion in excess of 20 lb. of force.
2. Constant Physical activity requires balance, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting performed in combination.

Job Qualification

* Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy or Art Therapy, required. Masters Degree, preferred.
* Certified (or pending certification) as Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
* Previous experience in a geriatric setting, preferred.
