Reporting to the Logistics and Procurement Manager, the Supply Chain Operations Supervisor oversees all shipping and crating personnel and activities. This includes planning and coordinating all inbound and outbound shipments. The role also involves collaborating with managers and supervisors to develop production schedules for the Fabrication Department that align with internal (GIP) and shipping lead time requirements.

What does a Supply Chain Operations Supervisor do?

  • Supervises and directs all shipping and crating personnel to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Coordinates and oversees inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Generates and prints shipment documents from SAP, including manifests and bills of lading.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy for both shipping supplies and job-related products.
  • Collaborates with the Logistics and Procurement Manager to align shipping operations with overall logistics strategies.
  • Tracks late shipments and communicate updates promptly to the Production Planner.
  • Manages goods receipt processes in SAP, including gathering and verifying received items.
  • Supports production scheduling for the Fabrication Department to meet internal (GIP) and shipping deadlines.
  • Monitors and enforces compliance with safety regulations and company policies in shipping and receiving areas.
  • Resolves shipping issues and work with vendors and internal teams to address delays or discrepancies.
  • Tracks and reports on shipping metrics, using data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Trains and develops team members to maintain high performance and promote professional growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of the following (6) roles:

    • Forklift Operator Crating/Shipping - 1st Shift
    • Ship Tally Person - Group Lead
    • Forklift Operator Shipping - 1st Shift

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in shipping, receiving or warehouse operations, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role
  • Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and warehouse/transportation management systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transportation regulations, inventory control, and freight coordination.

  1. Office Environment - This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. No PPE is required.

Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes: Hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

About the location (Newark OH)

Tectum, Inc., a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI), is one of twenty Armstrong plants in North America. Our Tectum manufacturing plant employs manypeople across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product.
