Position Purpose







This position is responsible and accountable for ensuring a secure and safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors of Renown Health by overseeing the Security Department and the security functions of Renown Health. The position is responsible for coordinating and reviewing all reports of incidents occurring on Renown Health property. The incumbent must monitor and modify the security program as necessary to ensure Joint Commission and other regulatory standards are met.

The Security Supervisor oversees all security department personnel and the Rescue Team. This position requires leading and teaching Rescue Team members. Performing armed postings to include Rescue Team duties as defined by Renown Health Policy is a key component of this position.









Nature and Scope







The position requires high standards of courtesy; performance, personal appearance, tolerance, and empathy are required. The incumbent is in a position of extremely high visibility to employees, patients, and the general public. This position supervises security department personnel, as well as providing security and protection for patients, visitors, and employees. The Security Supervisor oversees all programs designed to protect all Renown Health properties.

The major challenge to this position is coordinating all security activities and functions, as well as keeping up to date on fire, hazardous material, and other policies and procedures. The position also must ensure proper follow up on reports. This position must be able to use critical thinking skills to interpret policy, to call police and other emergency response agencies, to cite and tow illegally parked vehicles according to policy, to determine how best to deal with a patient or visitor, to evaluate employee performance and to initiate disciplinary action when necessary. While working the Manager of Security and the HR Business Partner, this incumbent has the authority to discipline, determine standards of performance, assign work, review completed work, grant time off, develop training programs, and provide overall direction and supervision of assigned staff.

The Supervisor of Security will develop and maintain procedures needed to support the Security Department. The Supervisor of Security will develop and oversee the management of both internal and external service contracts were assigned by the Manager of Security. The Security Supervisor will annually review all policies and procedures within the Security Department. Other duties, responsibilities and work outside normal working hours may be required. Situations not covered by policy or established guidelines must be referred to leadership.

The incumbent must defuse potentially violent situations when possible and contain and control them when it is not. The incumbent ensures that after-hours access to secured areas is available for qualified staff and physicians, that transportation to offsite parking for employees is available as requested and after-hours building checks at remote Renown Health entities are conducted. Additional services are also provided by the Security Department when necessary.

The Security Supervisor is responsible for planning and managing for the Security Department's needs and resources. The incumbent must determine uniform, and equipment needs as well as necessary emergency equipment. The incumbent is responsible for appropriate scheduling of staff and tracking of overtime usage.

Is required to put first the ability to excel at professionalism, exercising restraint to others' errant words and actions, quality decision making, being slow to anger, and understanding that being an armed employee is a tool to accomplishing all other aspects of this position. This nature of this position is quality of character, decision making and implantation of successful decisions.

Having the understanding that the armed requirement for this position is merely a tool utilized to provide quality customer service and successfully perform all Rescue Team duties. Being armed is not the focus of the position, it is a certification requirement.

Acts in the capacity of a Violence Prevention Champion, assists in teaching: employee active shooter protocol, stop-the-bleed process, and workplace violence prevention.

Is responsible for responding to all Rescue Team events as defined by Renown Health Policy, armed calls and armed postings assigned and ensuring the making of reports and maintaining records.

Rescue Officers will rotate into all Security Officer duties in order to maintain their Security Officer skills, facility and unit knowledge base as well as perfecting their guest relations approach.

During nights and weekends, this position will share the responsibility of performing a variety of supervisory functions including any (or a combination of all) of the following: (1) Dispatch, (2) Security (3) Valet Services. The incumbent will also share the responsibility of an on-call status as part of the Security Administrative Team.

The Security Supervisor will provide a clear vision and leadership to the staff assigned under the incumbent. This includes but is not limited to mentoring, coaching or otherwise developing the management capabilities of supervisor staff, developing the level of competency and training of the security staff, rescue team and setting out and routinely upgrading an overall security training program consistent with the System and Security plans and mission of the system.

The incumbent must have successfully completed all required departmental training programs including, but not limited to, handcuffing certification, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC Spay) Certification, IAHSS Basic Security Officer, and Non-violent de-escalation and intervention certification. New hires from outside the organization will be afforded 90 days to obtain any required certifications.

Successfully train with local law enforcement agencies in order to be proficient with NFPA 3000 requirements, The Joint Commission Active Shooter standards as well as understanding regional protocols for active shooter.

Must expertly understand and practice restraint in entering patient events involving non-armed Security Personnel or Renown Health employees, when armed, except as allowed by Renown Health Policy.

Must fully understand and successfully test annually on the Renown Health Rescue Team, Use-of-Force and Shooting Policy.

Must be able to work all shifts and during times of emergency be able to respond to Renown Health when called. Overtime, including mandatory overtime, may be required when necessary to ensure minimum staffing levels. Security Supervisors will receive specialized training, including Taser Instruction and Firearms Use. Successful completion of an approved course will be required. As approved by security department leadership Security Supervisors will be required to carry and utilize these items.

This position does not provide patient care.

Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.



Experience:



Requires a minimum of one-year supervisory experience in law enforcement, military, or the security department of a large facility. Healthcare security experience is strongly preferred.

High Level of motivation, creativity in problem solving, customer and employee service skills, strong sense of just culture, policy compliance, and strong team building skills preferred



License(s):



Valid State of Nevada Driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria.

A State of Nevada Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) obtained within 90-days of hire or possesses a valid CCW issued by order of H.R.218 - Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. CCW Permit delays by the appropriate law enforcement agency does not penalize the Officer from meeting the CCW requirement.



Certification(s):



A Valid State of Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certificate (Handgun only) required within 12 months of hire.

AHA certified Heart Saver certification required within 12 months of hire.

De-escalation Training.

Handcuffing Training.

OC Spray Training.

Certified Protection Professional or Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator Designator preferred.

IAHSS Supervisory Certifications is preferred.

Completion of background check upon hire and passing of annual background check required.



Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
