The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (
DAR) Division is seeking an Administrative Associate.
DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
The Administrative Associate is a key member of the Medicine and Health Development Team, which represents the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Public Health and Nursing. This position is an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, Medicine & Health, this position will manage multiple projects for the Associate Vice President, including dean engagement in philanthropy for all three schools; tracking council activities, plans and facilitates faculty training workshops, manages budget across all three schools, working with finance directly; meetings and recruitment for three volunteer dean's councils partners with Data Analyst to advance the grateful patient pipeline; and plans and manages onboarding, retention and team meeting agendas and activities.
Generates agenda for
AVP Meetings with Vice President, Deans, Department Chair/s, Faculty and Development Team. Generates briefing drafts Health and Medicine Dean, VP and President for upcoming development event and meetings.
Creates reports that track progress towards key performance indicators. Tracks and helps inform KPI's for the health and medical development enterprise.
Supervises administrative staff as well as summer and temporary staff, oversee customer service efforts of the front desk, including referring constituents and resolving concerns as appropriate.
This is the highest administrative support position that is not reporting directly to a Vice President or Dean.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Prior experience supporting a development office within a university setting strongly preferred.
- Secretarial/administrative experience, including professional experience with business administration.
- Interest in philanthropy, fundraising, personal finance and/or grant-writing. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to utilize project management tools and processes.
- Demonstrated experience in tracking projects with multiple deliverables and variable deadlines.
- High-level competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project Management software. Database experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Previous development/advancement experience within a large institutional environment and experience supporting a high-level executive preferred.
