General Summary of Position Job Summary: MedStar Health is looking for a Perioperative Services PCT to join our team. Perioperative Services plays a vital role in assisting the surgical team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. Provides direct patient care in Preop, Operating Room and PACU, supporting surgical procedures, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure smooth operations. Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical staff/providers. Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and/or tests, and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record. - Assists with patient care in the OR, including safe transfers, positioning, pre-operative prep, and applying SCD sleeves under the direction of clinical staff.
- Supports surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the operating room, setting up case carts, handling sterile items, and ensuring equipment availability.
- Transports patients, medications, blood products, specimens, and equipment as needed; assists with patient discharges, transfers, and errands.
- Performs basic clinical procedures such as blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, IV insertion, catheter removal, and collecting lab specimens as directed.
- Maintains a clean, safe patient environment; monitors vital signs, responds to call lights, and assists patients with ADLs including feeding and bathing.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program (Required) or
- Completion of a national Registered Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic program/course with at least six months or more experience as an EMT, CCT, or EMTP (Required) or
- Nursing Student (RN Program) with completion of at least one year of clinical rotation or a graduate of an approved nursing program (LPN or RN) (Required)
- Prior work experience not required
- General health care experience in an acute care, long-term care or other settings (Preferred)
- Basic math knowledge
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills (preferred)
Licenses/ Certifications:
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant in the District of Columbia (Required)
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days (Required)
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification (Preferred)
This position has a hiring range of $20.039 - $30.385
