Scope of Position The Operations Pharmacist Senior plays a key role in mitigating the impact of drug shortages and other supply chain disruptions by coordinating operations related to repackaging, storage, and medication utilization management. This role oversees repackaging operations, packaging techniques and technology, and other packaging activities as needed to support patient care needs. The role includes oversight of projects and participation in appropriate hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to their practice area such as the Drug Shortage and Pharmacy Review Committees. This position also meets with pharmacy inventory coordinators and vendors to ensure proper products are procured and inventory of specialized products is sufficient. The Operations Pharmacist Senior also assists department leadership in identifying and resolving quality control opportunities for improvement in sterile product preparation. The Operations Pharmacist Senior creates and implements recipes, policies, and procedures regarding medication compounding, packaging, storage, and administration. This position also participates in conversations regarding sterile compounding practices and serves as a resource to front line staff and department leadership on sterile compounding practices. These activities involve collaboration with pharmacy personnel to ensure a safe, effective, and cost-efficient environment for patient care. Position Summary The Operations Pharmacist Senior is responsible for overseeing operations and maintaining quality control over the repackaging room. This includes overseeing the process and procedure for bulked compounded sterile products that are sent to an outside lab for sterility and potency testing. The Operations Pharmacist Senior also provides oversight of packaging emergency kits and coordination of medication changes that are approved through the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at OSUWMC. The Operations Pharmacist Senior is also responsible for developing and executing operational plans related to inventory and stocking changes that occurs as a result of drug shortages. This may include activities such as identifying repackaging opportunities, developing detailed compounding recipes, creating drug supply conservation strategies, and other activities related to mitigating the impact of drug shortages. Minimum Qualifications For Hire: PharmD or Bachelors in Pharmacy; registered pharmacist in the State of Ohio; minimum 3 years experience as a health system pharmacist; professional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to independently manage tasks and areas of responsibility; board certification in sterile compounding (e.g. BCSCP) preferred. |
