Job Summary

The Staff Research Associate (SRA) will support research initiatives in the Rajkovic laboratory, focusing on the genetic foundations of human reproductive genomics. The lab investigates reproductive genetic pathologies such as ovarian failure, uterine leiomyomas, and early pregnancy losses. This position involves working with transgenic mice to collect tissues related to uterine development and leiomyoma formation, as well as managing the mouse colony and conducting genotyping.

The SRA will collaborate closely with the postdoctoral fellow and principal investigator to design studies and perform experimental work. Additionally, the role may involve collecting and processing human tissues from individuals experiencing infertility, uterine leiomyomas, and pregnancy losses.

Responsibilities include extracting genomic DNA, constructing whole genome sequencing libraries, conducting whole genome sequencing, and performing data analysis. The SRA will also engage in single-cell sequencing and associated data analysis. Maintaining precise records of tissues and phenotypes collected throughout the study is essential.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Pathology at UCSF aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology and surgical pathology.

Required Qualifications


  • BS/BA degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology or other related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position and one or more years directly related experience; and/or equivalent education and training.
  • Experience in designing and executing experiments.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS office.
  • Solid experience with laboratory procedures, slide preparation, sample collection, handling, processing, documentation.
  • Communication skills.
  • Organization skills, detail orientation.

Preferred Qualifications


  • One (1) or more years of experience processing human tissues.
  • Experience in molecular genetics, genotyping, PCR, DNA extraction.
