Internship Placement Manager

General Summary:

We seek a collaborative and creative colleague who shares UMass Boston's commitment to urban education, equity, and social justice and who possesses culturally sustaining perspectives on education to serve as an Internship Placement Manager.
The Internship Placement Manager is a full-time position within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) under the leadership of the Student Success Director.
The manager will provide support for identifying internship opportunities and placements for students enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development with an emphasis on students enrolled in the Sport Leadership and Administration major, including managing student and organizational internship records and creating and maintaining relationships with internal and external sport-related organizations, including community-based organizations and schools. The manager will also assist with recruitment, field placement, and accreditation, and support and evaluate internship placements.

Examples of Duties:

Under the direction of the Student Success Director, work to ensure consistency of efforts across all internship experiences;


  • Manage and organize the internship databases;
  • Locate and assist students with securing internship positions;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Academic and Career Engagement and Success (ACES) and Sport Leadership and Administration Advisory Board to identify professional development opportunities for students;
  • Track and document each student's internship hours ;
  • Document and review site experiences;
  • Create and maintain evaluation tools for students' internship experiences, including mid-term and final field supervisor evaluations and student intern evaluations;
  • Support students prior to, during, and after their internships to ensure their success and growth;
  • Develop and update communication tools for students and internship supervisors;
  • Liaise with current and prospective internship supervisors to ensure that off-site training opportunities align with UMass Boston's commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Research opportunities in the field and connect with organizational leaders who may be looking for interns or employees
  • Research trends and job opportunities to communicate with the academic program for distribution (including but not limited to social media);
  • Build structure to systematize internship selection process:

    • Build and maintain field placement course application
    • Communicate with academic advisors, faculty, and students to implement internship registration and selection.


  • Evaluate internship site's ability to meet student interns' experiential learning objectives as outlined by the academic programs

  • Collaborate with the program director of the Sport Leadership and Administration program, the department chair, all program faculty and staff, to facilitate and coordinate deep partnerships with organizations in the sport industry and related organizations;


  • Attend pertinent SLA program and/or CSPS department meetings and events


  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree is required in a related filed and Master's degree is preferred. 1-2 years of experience in a related work experience required. Experience in academic settings preferred. Knowledge of the sport leadership and administration industry is preferred.
