The University of Missouri System, located in Columbia, Missouri, is seeking qualified applicants for an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel emphasizing commercial transactions primarily involving the University of Missouri-Columbia's 10-megawatt Research Reactor, the largest university research reactor in the United States. The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is a leading producer of cancer-fighting radiopharmaceutical products and isotopes. This position will be based in Columbia, Missouri. This position will be a member of the Transactions Practice Group within the Office of General Counsel, and will serve as the General Counsel's liaison to the University's department which manages and operates the Research Reactor and its growing business enterprises. The University of Missouri System consists of four academic universities located in Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, the University Health System, and the Research Reactor. The UM System has more than 75,000 students and 24,000 employees. The Office of the General Counsel provides legal services to all the Universities, Health System, the Research Reactor and the UM System offices. Responsibilities for the position primarily will focus on representing and advising the University and its Research Reactor in irradiation service, radiopharmaceutical supply and quality agreements, business enterprise agreements, real estate and construction, intellectual property, procurement contracts, research and grant agreements, nuclear regulatory, FDA regulatory, import/export, safety, personnel, and general corporate and transactional matters. Duties will include frequently serving as the sole attorney on routine matters; teaming with other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel, or monitoring outside counsel in more complex matters; handling transactions through all stages, including, negotiating and drafting or reviewing contracts; providing advice and representation; coordinating closely with University business, contracting, and risk management personnel; collaborating with scientific and technical personnel on legal matters; developing and maintaining a baseline knowledge of the scientific and operational principles of MURR's business enterprises; advising and responding to emergent legal issues within the nuclear operational environment, including regulatory, personnel, and policy issues, and keeping the General Counsel well informed. The attorney also will contribute to advice, representation, and training for University personnel and campus leadership on a range of topics, updating approved forms and processes, and performing other responsibilities assigned by the General Counsel. The successful applicant will mentor less experienced attorneys in the Office. To perform this job successfully, individuals should have demonstrated skill, knowledge, and first chair experience in leading complex commercial law transactions to successful conclusion; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and external contacts; demonstrated skills in client service, oral and written communication and time management; and proven ability to effectively develop trust, respect and cooperation across all areas of an organization and staff levels. Other responsibilities may include service on University committees; policy development and review; and creating and delivering training programs. A Juris Doctor or LLB degree from an ABA accredited law school and at least 8 years of experience with a significant specialized experience in at least one area. License to practice law in Missouri or eligible for admission to the Missouri Bar. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws preferred. Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $185,000 - $225,000 depending on experience. Application Materials
