INSTRUCTIONAL COACH - MATHEMATICS (GRADES 6-12)

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach - Mathematics (Grades 6-12) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Coach - Mathematics (Grades 6-12) is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position. The Instructional Coach serves as a key leader in enhancing mathematics instruction and improving student outcomes across middle and high school classrooms. The coach will work collaboratively with educators, administrators, school leadership teams, and district staff to support implementation of district mathematics curriculum and initiatives, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure equitable access to high-quality mathematics instruction for all students. The Instructional Coach will provide targeted support through coaching cycles, modeling exemplary teaching practices, and facilitating professional development. This role requires a deep understanding of mathematics content and pedagogy and a passion for empowering educators and students to achieve success in mathematics.

Eligible candidates must have:

• A minimum of five (5) years of successful, fully licensed teaching experience in mathematics
• A valid lifetime teaching license in mathematics (1400) for grades 6-12
• Demonstrated experience providing professional development sessions at the district level, or significant demonstration that goes beyond working with staff at one school alone.

Candidates with the following education, skills, or experience are preferred:

• Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Mathematics Education Leadership
• Demonstrated competence in culturally responsive teaching practices
• Effective oral and written communication are required
• Demonstrated competence in culturally responsive teaching practices
• Deep knowledge of district-adopted materials and proven successful implementation at the classroom level
• Deep knowledge of the mathematics needed for teaching, including the WI State Standards for Mathematics
• Knowledge of research and best practices in mathematics teaching and learning, including experience with proven, successful instructional strategies
• Knowledge and skills to design and implement effective professional development, support adult learning, and support school and system change efforts.
• Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and monitoring data to inform instructional decisions, including data from district sources
• Expertise in strategies for differentiating classroom instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
• Excellent teamwork skills are essential, as is a positive disposition
• The ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels is required.
• Must have excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to establish relationships of trust and respect with colleagues.
• Must have a working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to integrate technology into the classroom.

• Provides targeted coaching to mathematics educators through co-planning, co-teaching, modeling lessons, and offering constructive feedback to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
• Understands, monitors, and supports implementation of district-adopted mathematics instructional materials and resources and instructional practices with fidelity through culturally responsive practices.
• Designs and facilitates district and school level (including, but not limited to, grade level and department) professional learning sessions on content standards and district initiatives.
• Communicates information to and from schools/teachers and MPS departments/divisions on school efforts to implement academic intervention strategies and student progress.
• Analyzes, interprets, and utilizes data to identify trends, inform decisions, and guide school-based and district work.
• Participates in school-based professional learning community and/or department meetings and assists with implementation of School Improvement Plan strategies.
• Builds trust and rapport to facilitate change, plan strategically, and distribute leadership.
• Works collaboratively with teachers, other coaches, and school and district leaders; provides effective, formative feedback in an equitable manner.
• Engages in ongoing professional learning to enhance coaching effectiveness.
• Accurately maintains and shares calendar, schedules, and records; efficiently completes paperwork and assignments.
• Attends mandatory trainings and facilitates professional development that may fall outside of the regular work schedule.
• Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Instructional Coach - Mathematics (Grades 6-12) salary schedule starts at $60,987.04 and increases according to the set salary schedule based on education beyond the required bachelor's degree and previous years of fully-licensed K-12 teaching experience.

Salary range: $60,987.04 - 114,217.31 (1D - 200-day calendar)
