The department of Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona (UA) is one of the premier centers of astronomical research in the world. We are recruiting a full time Research Program Administration Officer II to provide support for both the Arizona Radio Observatory (ARO) and Mountain Operations (Mtn Ops) groups of Steward Observatory. These groups support research activities including instrumentation development, and the operation, maintenance and upgrades of optical and radio telescope sites located in Southern Arizona. This position requires an individual with demonstrated ability to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Prepares cost and salary projections/analyses and interprets financial data and other project information. Prepares reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies. Coordinates and assists in the preparation of research proposal budgets, budget justifications, and service contracts for federal and other funding sources.
- Maintains correspondence with internal and external research collaborators and stakeholders, implements and prepares various department forms, memos and documents. Develops and monitors project plans including schedules, resource requirements, and budgets to share with the rest of the team.
- Coordinates and facilitates workshops, meetings or conferences; coordinates logistics, scheduling and participant communications.
- Keeps informed of regulations, policies and procedures set forth by University or outside governing agencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of UA policies, procedures, and terminology.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge and skill of basic office procedures and skill in telephone etiquette and communications with the public.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and Adobe.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and writing competence.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with UAccess Analytics and Financials.
- Experience generating budgets.
- Experience working in a research, technology, or manufacturing-type environment.
- Experience in managing multiple priorities and deadlines that require initiative, prioritization, punctuality, attention to detail, and effective communication with a variety of people and work groups.
- Experience and discretion in working with faculty, staff, students, administration, and visitors.
- Experience learning new systems and software.
- Experience with project management software.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims.
