About the Role:

Supports Business Development activities through identification, scientific evaluation, and analysis of potential licensing opportunities and partnerships in the biopharmaceutical space. Conducts comprehensive search and evaluation activities focused on identifying promising therapeutic assets and technologies to expand the company's pipeline. Performs detailed scientific assessment of opportunities, including analysis of mechanism of action, preclinical/clinical data, and therapeutic potential. Participates in due diligence activities, including review of scientific documentation and coordination with subject matter experts. Creates and maintains competitive landscapes and evaluates opportunities relevant to the Company. Contributes to the development of business cases and supports deal execution processes. Maintains deep scientific understanding of current and future trends in therapeutic innovations, with particular focus on emerging technologies and treatment modalities. Assists in the preparation of proposals, negotiations, and presentations for licensing opportunities, working cross-functionally with internal teams to advance business development objectives.

Your Contributions:
  • Support and/or lead assigned business development transactions projects

  • Participates in or may lead cross-functional internal and external project teams and meet pre-defined objectives and timelines

  • Coordinates with broader team to assist with due diligence on potential business development opportunities, including product and technology assessment

  • Develop valuation techniques and apply to potential business development opportunities

  • Monitor industry trends, companies, technologies and therapeutic areas of relevance to the Company

  • Review contracts in close collaboration with Legal, IP, and Finance teams

  • Coordinate the Company's efforts and represent the Company at partnering conferences

  • Manage Neurocrine network of potential collaborators, including academic centers and prospective corporate partners

  • Assist with background research on topics including, but not limited to, novel targets, therapeutic areas, companies, and competitive landscapes

  • Creates content for assigned BD presentations

  • Ensure all interactions are compliant with internal policies, governmental regulations and best practices

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree in life sciences, finance, business or similar field and 4+ years of of business development, venture capital, investment research, investment banking, corporate development or related experience; 2+ years of biotechnology/pharmaceutical in scientific based role preferred OR

  • Master's degree in scientific field, finance or related field or MBA and 2+ years of similar experience noted above OR

  • PhD in scientific field preferred for therapeutic focused role and some similar experience noted above

  • Demonstrated knowledge of search and evaluation with preclinical and clinical stage assets and platforms in Neurology/Immunology/Endocrinology/Psychiatry across therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, small molecules, antibodies, peptides, oligonucleotides, gene therapy

  • Strong scientific acumen to identify key differentiation factors of potential partner programs/platforms and ability to take meticulous notes

  • Proficient with tools and processes that support work conducted by functional area

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Excellent computer skills and presentation creation skills

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills

  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines, with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail

  • Strong project management skills

  • Demonstrated functional expertise working in a Biotech/Pharma industry R&D setting with some experience in a business development, venture capital, investment research, investment banking, and/or corporate development function

  • Strong understanding of biotechnology/pharmaceutical competitive landscape

  • Scientific based understanding of drug development and regulatory processes

  • Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes

  • Ability to build therapeutic area network throughout the Biotech/Pharma industry

  • Up to 20% travel required

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $101,200.00-$146,550.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
