Position Overview:

Apply your impeccable eye for detail and thorough knowledge of accounting/payroll activities to support the operations of a top player in the electrical contracting industry. In this role, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Accountant to support our Storm Task Force division. This individual will play a key role in processing multi-state/union payroll, maintaining employee records, ensuring tax compliance, and handling onboarding documentation. While this is a hybrid/remote role, availability to respond to storm-related payroll needs-including outside normal business hours-is required. Flexibility during non-storm periods is available.

Location:



  • This position is based in our York corporate office and, after training, this person will have some flexibility to occasionally work from home when appropriate.
  • Occasional travel as necessary to other offices or yard locations, trainings, and offsite meetings.
  • Additional customer related travel may also be required at customer facilities.



Responsibilities:

Onboarding & Compliance:



  • Assist with weekly preparation of multi-state/union payroll.
  • Prepares payroll tax and benefit payments and required reporting.
  • Updates payroll records by reviewing changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, deductions, and department/division transfers.
  • Distribute onboarding paperwork via JotForm or DocuSign.
  • Input and maintain employee data in HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Reactivate returning employees and determine if updated documents are needed.
  • Assist in processing FMCSA Clearinghouse queries and run MVRs to assess driver eligibility.
  • Conduct E-Verify checks and upload onboarding documents to BambooHR.
  • Collaborate with new hires, Payroll, and Storm Task Force leadership to resolve incomplete paperwork and driver eligibility concerns.


Payroll Administration:



  • Prepare and process off cycle Storm Task Force payroll for multi-state and union employees.
  • Review and update payroll records for changes in deductions, benefits, and department transfers.
  • Prepare and remit payroll taxes and benefit payments in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll with general ledger and ensure accuracy of postings.
  • Assist with unemployment claims, employment verifications, and union benefit reports.
  • Respond to audit requests and support quarterly tax filings.
  • Calculate employee and employer tax obligations, including Social Security, unemployment insurance, and workers' compensation.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, local, and union-specific payroll regulations.


Systems & Reporting:



  • Maintain and update payroll software to reflect current staffing.
  • Handle sensitive payroll data with strict confidentiality.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and adhere to accounting best practices.



Qualifications:

Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 - 5 years of progressive, multi-state payroll processing experience.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications and computerized payroll and accounting software (Viewpoint Vista preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred:



  • Experience with BambooHR, Viewpoint Vista, JotForm, or DocuSign.
  • Familiarity with union payroll processing and reporting.


Other:



  • Must be able to present acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorizations per the Federal I-9 requirement.
  • Office experience in a higher paced environment.
  • Valid Driver's License
