Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks an exceptional Instructional Coach: Program Support Teacher Deaf & Hard of Hearing Programs candidate who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Coach Program Support Teacher - Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs position will provide training and support for district personnel on the development, implementation, and monitoring of programming for students in the district's Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Programs. Responsibilities will include providing professional development and consulting services to school personnel in a variety of areas, such as evaluation, effective programming and instruction, use of formal and informal assessments, data analysis, and inclusive practices.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

The position requires a current lifetime license in one of the following:

  • License(s): CD #810 or LD #811 or ED #830 or Cross Categorical #801 or Bilingual K-12 with special education license and license #805.

Experience Requirements:

The position requires at least five (5) years of fully-licensed teaching experience in the area of special education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Evidence of skills in individual and group management, parent training, curriculum development, instructional materials development, learning theories and strategy/intervention development and implementation.

Knowledge of special education procedures, instructional methodologies and assessment.

Knowledge of best practices development, facilitation and implementation of Individual Education Plans.

Ability to accurately interpret various forms of data to effectively inform decision making and goal writing

Responsibilities

  • Assists the special education and regular education teaching staff in the evaluation and instructional planning for children with suspected and identified special education needs
  • Assists the special education and regular education teachers in providing quality and comprehensive programming for children with special education needs including but not limited:
  • Consultation and support to staff in the areas of identifying and understanding students with disabilities;
  • Consultations and support to staff in the area of inclusive practices; and
  • Dissemination and explanation of professional information to school staff.
  • Assists special education and regular education teachers in the effective use of assessment data to ensure the academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional growth of students.
  • Participates in the development and enhancement of a district-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning.
  • Interprets audiological reports and the impact on student learning.
  • Assists regular education teachers in understanding the needs and learning characteristics of students with hearing impairments.
  • Assists in making environmental adjustments in the school.
  • Provides assistance to school personnel regarding curriculum and activities of the classroom that, as a direct result of the students hearing impairment, require adaptation or reinforcement for the student.
  • Instructs in auditory skill development..
  • Shares responsibility for development and implementation of the IEP, ongoing assessment, and program planning.
  • Shares resources and educational information with parents concerning students with an hearing impairment.
  • Maintains contact with other district and agency personnel, such as sign language interpreters audiologists, counselors, career/vocational education staff and rehabilitation counselors when needed.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to handle light lifting, occasional standing, and bending.
