The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Transportation Mobility and Operations is recruiting for an ITS Technician Supervisor position located in Baltimore County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.

Nature of work: The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to the SOC/CHART Program and SHA's statewide communication system. The ITS Technician Supervisor provides senior technical expertise, supervision, and procurement responsibilities relating to various systems including, but not limited to, Voice, Data, and RF Communications, Wireless Systems Architecture Design and Integration, Digital and Fiber Optic Transmission, Communications Software Applications, Diagnostic and Programming Software, and Installation, Repair and Maintenance of multiple Intelligent Transportation System Devices also known as (ITS Devices). This position may be based anywhere within the state; however, it is typically assigned and primarily functions in the Northern Region, which includes the following counties: Baltimore and Harford. However, with the increased utilization and integration of statewide systems, several aspects of the position apply to statewide support functions, promoting standardized technical approaches, developing system improvements, and meeting the demand for reliability. This position may act as manager for the Operations and Repair Team during the absences of other team managers such as the Assistant Division Chief.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience installing, repairing, maintaining, programming and modifying devices and equipment associated with intelligent transportation systems, traffic control systems, wireless communication technologies and networks. One (1) year of the above experience must have involved performing the above functions at the advanced/ lead worker level.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Experience with fiber optics, communication systems, electronic circuits, or Land Mobile radio equipment
  • Experience with a bucket truck
Notes:
Candidates may substitute 15 semester credits from an accredited college or university in any combination of the following courses: microprocessor and microcomputer theory; digital circuit applications; transducer activated control circuits; advanced timing/ sequential relays; or communications electronics for one year of the required general experience.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Candidate must possess a driver's license valid in the state of Maryland Class C.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's license must be obtained within the probational period (1 year).

This position is designated as essential, subject to 24-hour/7-day a week emergency call-out, and candidate must be reachable after hours via a state supplied cell phone. The probational period for this position will be a minimum of a six-month duration.
