POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kiln Attendant is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the consistent flow of materials into the kiln system in a lime processing facility. This role ensures that feed materials meet quality and quantity specifications and supports efficient kiln operation by performing routine inspections, adjustments, and housekeeping tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Operate and monitor equipment used to feed limestone into the kilns.

  • Ensure proper material flow and prevent blockages or overflows in feed systems.

  • Perform routine inspections of conveyors, hoppers, feeders, and other related equipment.

  • Clean bins, conveyers, spills, material from under conveyers and catwalks, and other cleaning duties as assigned.

  • Continuously observe, monitor, and report any condition that could lead to equipment failure or a safety hazard.

  • Communicate with kiln operators and control room personnel to coordinate feed rates and material quality.

  • Collect and record data on material feed rates, temperatures, and system performance.

  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.

  • Maintain high level of cleanliness, housekeeping, and organization of the kiln feed area, including removal of spillage and debris.

  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Report any potential operational or safety problems to management.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment including, haul truck, bobcat and front end loader in a safe manner.

  • Assist in kiln outage work, as needed.

  • Responsible for completing equipment and work area inspections.

  • Perform all assigned work adhering to Company and governmental safety rules and regulation and follow company lock out tag out procedures.

  • Perform general plant labor in the stone preparation areas of the plant.

  • Learn various entry level positions and cross train in other areas of the plant as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Industrial background with good troubleshooting skills and basic mechanical aptitude.

  • Knowledgeable of current environmental regulations and practices as they relate to the lime industry.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations is required.

  • Must be able to work shift work, seven days a week including holidays and be flexible to schedule changes, including overtime.

  • Must have a telephone and be open to call-outs.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and mechanical systems safely.

  • Basic understanding of material handling systems and process flow.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.

  • Experience in lime, cement, or similar processing industries.

  • Familiarity with kiln operations preferred.

  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, managers, and peers.

  • Demonstrate the ability to operate a computer preferred.

  • Must be able to perform in compliance with all task training requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be capable of working shift work, overtime, seven days, or holidays, if needed.

  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry 50 pounds.

  • Demonstrated skills of heavy equipment operation a plus, but minimum as demonstrated for an over the road haul truck.

  • History of safe operation of vehicle as demonstrated on driving record.

  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

PREFFERED EDUCATION: Technical training or associate's degree in technical related field is desired.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Previous laborer experience.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: Previous labor experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred. Loader operator experience preferred.
