General Purpose of Job: The Regional Clinical Policy management Specialist is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of clinical policies across the regional health system within the University of Michigan Health (UMH). In close partnership with the UMH Academic Medical Center (AMC) Clinical Policy Manager, this role ensures alignment with enterprise-wide policy frameworks, regulatory requirements, and clinical best practices. As a key liaison between AMC and regional teams, the Regional Clinical Policy management Specialist supports policy integration, compliance, and standardization efforts to promote safe, high-quality, consistent patient care. This role involves leading the short-term transition of policy management systems while reforming and streamlining the long-term policy framework for UMH-Sparrow and the maintenance of the UMH-West policy management platform. The regional policy framework includes a multitude of clinical care and operations documents, ranging from policies, procedures, guidelines, to standing orders and protocols. The primary objective is to shape these documents' future and long-term design for consistency, reduce redundancy, adherence to framework standards, and compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. This role requires a robust understanding of legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements regarding clinical issues. The ideal candidate should have experience in a healthcare system and demonstrate the ability to navigate complex documents and collaborate effectively with relevant stakeholders. The incumbent is expected to possess strong project management skills, taking the lead in both short and long-term projects related to the policy framework. Effective interpersonal skills and diplomacy are crucial for managing diverse clinical stakeholders at different leadership levels. Collaboration with clinical, operational, legal, and compliance experts is essential to translate clinical practice expectations and processes into suitable formats. A key responsibility is to connect the dots and eliminate gaps across the region, identifying opportunities to streamline, standardize, and simplify processes within the policy framework. This role requires anticipating the likely impact of policy framework standards and working with various stakeholder groups across the institution. |

- Lead the policy management system transition effort for all clinical care and operations documents.
- Develop and adhere to project timelines Identify key gaps with the ability to provide solutions and action planning
- Consolidate duplicate and contradictory documents
- Create standardized guiding principles for policy management standards
- Partner with vendor, corporate compliance, and other various stakeholders on transition efforts for UMH-Sparrow
- Post-implementation management of the policy management platform
- Maintain the policy management platform for UMH-West
- Support all elements of an effective Policy Management System Administrator for the region

- Lead and participate in long-term and short-term projects related to the policy framework
- Benchmarking industry best practices

- Partner with appropriate leadership and committee stakeholders

Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Regulatory/Accreditation or Healthcare Quality Certification or Leadership Certification, e.g., Healthcare Accreditation Certification Program (HACP), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Ethics Certification, or Team STEPPS preferred. |
Work Experience |
* Minimum 3 years of healthcare experience * Healthcare policy and/or regulatory/accreditation experience preferred. * Policy management platform experience, utilization, and implementation preferred. * Experience in policy framework development, e.g., creation, education, implementation etc. preferred. * Previous experience consolidating documents preferred. * Committee leadership role experience preferred. * Robust understanding of legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements regarding clinical issues. * Experience in a healthcare system and demonstrate the ability to navigate complex documents and collaborate effectively with relevant stakeholders |
Education |
* Bachelor's degree in related discipline, e.g., Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Policy, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Health, or Business Administration. * Clinical degree or background preferred. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Ability to function as a leader, independently, or as a team member * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with all levels of stakeholders across the institution. * Competence with basic computer software * Ability to anticipate problems and the confidence to initiate appropriate action in response preferred. * Strong project management skills, taking the lead in both short and long-term projects related to the policy framework. * Effective interpersonal skills and diplomacy. * Must be able to collaborate with clinical, operational, legal, and compliance experts. |
